Hebrew Text— 1 Kings 2:23Then king Solomon swore by Yahweh, saying, “God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah has not spoken this word against his own life.

Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit.
He said, “What is the thing that he has spoken to you? Please don’t hide it from me. God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that he spoke to you.”
A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are a snare to his soul.
Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May Yahweh do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts you and me.”
For, as Yahweh lives, who saves Israel, though it is in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die.” But there was not a man among all the people who answered him.
Samuel said to him, “Yahweh has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.
Yahweh do so to Jonathan, and more also, should it please my father to do you evil, if I don’t disclose it to you, and send you away, that you may go in peace. May Yahweh be with you, as he has been with my father.
They mourned, wept, and fasted until evening, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of Yahweh, and for the house of Israel; because they had fallen by the sword.
The elders of his house arose beside him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, and he didn’t eat bread with them.
Absalom set Amasa over the army instead of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Ithra the Israelite, who went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah, Joab’s mother.
Then the king said to Amasa, “Call me the men of Judah together within three days, and be here present.”
Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I don’t make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time!”
Your own mouth condemns you, and not I. Yes, your own lips testify against you.
The trouble he causes shall return to his own head. His violence shall come down on the crown of his own head.
But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul. All those who hate me love death.”
and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah when that company died; at the time the fire devoured two hundred fifty men, and they became a sign.
God do so to the enemies of David, and more also, if I leave of all that belongs to him by the morning light so much as one who urinates on a wall.”
David said to him, “Your blood be on your head; for your mouth has testified against you, saying, ‘I have slain Yahweh’s anointed.’ ”
Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army, Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder,
For the sin of their mouth, and the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride, for the curses and lies which they utter.
He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of fools gush out folly.
The king’s wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.
“Therefore now Yahweh, the God of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Why do you commit great evil against your own souls, to cut off from yourselves man and woman, infant and nursing child out of the middle of Judah, to leave yourselves no one remaining;
I will set my face against that man, and will make him an astonishment, for a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from among my people. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.
All testified about him, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth, and they said, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?”
and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, having made them an example to those who would live in an ungodly way;
the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment,
but you shall not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.”
even the censers of those who sinned against their own lives. Let them be beaten into plates for a covering of the altar, for they offered them before Yahweh. Therefore they are holy. They shall be a sign to the children of Israel.”
Yahweh said to Moses, “Put back the rod of Aaron before the covenant, to be kept for a token against the children of rebellion; that you may make an end of their complaining against me, that they not die.”
Yahweh has done to you as he spoke by me. Yahweh has torn the kingdom out of your hand, and given it to your neighbor, even to David.
Now then do it; for Yahweh has spoken of David, saying, ‘By the hand of my servant David, I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.’ ”
Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron, and spoke, saying, “Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.
He said to him, “Say now to her, ‘Behold, you have cared for us with all this care. What is to be done for you? Would you like to be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the army?’ ” She answered, “I dwell among my own people.”
But Gehazi the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “Behold, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought. As Yahweh lives, I will run after him, and take something from him.”
These are the numbers of the heads of those who were armed for war, who came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to Yahweh’s word.
Yahweh has made himself known. He has executed judgment. The wicked is snared by the work of his own hands.
All those who see me mock me. They insult me with their lips. They shake their heads, saying,
Because of all my adversaries I have become utterly contemptible to my neighbors, a horror to my acquaintances. Those who saw me on the street fled from me.
Let the wicked fall together into their own nets while I pass by.
you are trapped by the words of your mouth; you are ensnared with the words of your mouth.
A righteous person is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked takes his place.
The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion. He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.
Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.
I have dug and drunk water, and with the sole of my feet I will dry up all the rivers of Egypt.”
Men won’t break bread for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead. Men won’t give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.
For wasn’t Israel a derision to you? Was he found among thieves? For as often as you speak of him, you shake your head.
It will happen that all those who look at you will flee from you, and say, ‘Nineveh is laid waste! Who will mourn for her?’ Where will I seek comforters for you?”
They told him, “He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will lease out the vineyard to other farmers, who will give him the fruit in its season.”
Saul said, “God do so and more also; for you shall surely die, Jonathan.”
God do so to Abner, and more also, if, as Yahweh has sworn to David, I don’t do even so to him;
All the people came to urge David to eat bread while it was yet day; but David swore, saying, “God do so to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or anything else, until the sun goes down.”
Say to Amasa, ‘Aren’t you my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if you aren’t captain of the army before me continually instead of Joab.’ ”
Ben Hadad sent to him, and said, “The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria will be enough for handfuls for all the people who follow me.”
Then he said, “God do so to me, and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat stays on him today.”
Their own tongues shall ruin them. All who see them will shake their heads.
As for the head of those who surround me, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.
An evil man is trapped by sinfulness of lips, but the righteous shall come out of trouble.
The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but a fool is swallowed by his own lips.
You have devised shame to your house, by cutting off many peoples, and have sinned against your soul.
“He said to him, ‘Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant! You knew that I am an exacting man, taking up that which I didn’t lay down, and reaping that which I didn’t sow.
