Hebrew Text— 1 Samuel 23:26Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain; and David hurried to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men surrounded David and his men to take them.

I sought Yahweh, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.
I will pour on David’s house, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they will look to me whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for his only son, and will grieve bitterly for him, as one grieves for his firstborn.
When they had crucified him, they divided his clothing among them, casting lots,
Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also the coat. Now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
You will come up against my people Israel, as a cloud to cover the land. It will happen in the latter days, that I will bring you against my land, that the nations may know me, when I am sanctified in you, Gog, before their eyes.”
When they came to the place that is called “The Skull”, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.
Again another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they pierced.”
My eyes are ever on Yahweh, for he will pluck my feet out of the net.
You will ascend. You will come like a storm. You will be like a cloud to cover the land, you, and all your hordes, and many peoples with you.”
I will enter into judgment with him with pestilence and with blood. I will rain on him, and on his hordes, and on the many peoples who are with him, an overflowing shower, with great hailstones, fire, and sulfur.
“I will send a fire on Magog, and on those who dwell securely in the islands. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.
Listen to this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who tell their husbands, “Bring us drinks!”
If I fought with animals at Ephesus for human purposes, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, then “let’s eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”
Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, including those who pierced him. All the tribes of the earth will mourn over him. Even so, Amen.
Then she let them down by a cord through the window; for her house was on the side of the wall, and she lived on the wall.

“Look to me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.
You shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bulls, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
Crucifying him, they parted his garments among them, casting lots on them, what each should take.
As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
Therefore I have not sinned against you, but you do me wrong to war against me. May Yahweh the Judge be judge today between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.”
All the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, “The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he has fled out of the land from Absalom.
from the wicked who oppress me, my deadly enemies, who surround me.
Then I thought, “I will appeal to this: the years of the right hand of the Most High.”
set apart among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more. They are cut off from your hand.
The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”
but their plot became known to Saul. They watched the gates both day and night that they might kill him,
You are already filled. You have already become rich. You have come to reign without us. Yes, and I wish that you did reign, that we also might reign with you.
for a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.
Beware of the dogs; beware of the evil workers; beware of the false circumcision.
He performs great signs, even making fire come down out of the sky to the earth in the sight of people.
Fire came out from Yahweh, and devoured the two hundred fifty men who offered the incense.
When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses, chariots, and a people more numerous than you, you shall not be afraid of them; for Yahweh your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves, and he didn’t restrain them.
Saul sent messengers to David’s house, to watch him, and to kill him in the morning. Michal, David’s wife, told him, saying, “If you don’t save your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.”
When the servant of the man of God had risen early, and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was around the city. His servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
The cords of death surrounded me. The floods of ungodliness made me afraid.
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?
Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog.
They return at evening, howling like dogs, and prowl around the city.
At evening let them return. Let them howl like a dog, and go around the city.
A fire goes before him, and burns up his adversaries on every side.
A fire was kindled in their company. The flame burned up the wicked.
For my eyes are on you, Yahweh, the Lord. In you, I take refuge. Don’t leave my soul destitute.
For his burning place has long been ready. Yes, for the king it is prepared. He has made its pyre deep and large with fire and much wood. Yahweh’s breath, like a stream of sulfur, kindles it.
Then Yahweh’s angel went out and struck one hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.
Kill all her bulls. Let them go down to the slaughter. Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their visitation.
I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’
He who breaks open the way goes up before them. They break through the gate, and go out. And their king passes on before them, with Yahweh at their head.
For, behold, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, that march through the width of the earth, to possess dwelling places that are not theirs.
Behold, at that time I will deal with all those who afflict you, and I will save those who are lame, and gather those who were driven away. I will give them praise and honor, whose shame has been in all the earth.
but in the day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and sulfur from the sky and destroyed them all.
But they insisted, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.”
But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. Their voices and the voices of the chief priests prevailed.
However one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
Now I don’t desire to have you unaware, brothers, that I often planned to come to you, and was hindered so far, that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among the rest of the Gentiles.
Now concerning spiritual things, brothers, I don’t want you to be ignorant.
punishing those who don’t know God, and to those who don’t obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus,
Let’s therefore go out to him outside of the camp, bearing his reproach.
This is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us.
If anyone desires to harm them, fire proceeds out of their mouth and devours their enemies. If anyone desires to harm them, he must be killed in this way.
They turned and went up by the way of Bashan. Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.
butter from the herd, and milk from the flock, with fat of lambs, rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the finest of the wheat. From the blood of the grape, you drank wine.
So Michal let David down through the window. He went away, fled, and escaped.
Jonathan cried after the boy, “Go fast! Hurry! Don’t delay!” Jonathan’s boy gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.
David’s men said to him, “Behold, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?”
David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. David was in the wilderness of Ziph in the wood.
David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, “Arise! Let’s flee; or else none of us will escape from Absalom. Hurry to depart, lest he overtake us quickly, and bring down evil on us, and strike the city with the edge of the sword.”
Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, ‘Don’t lodge tonight at the fords of the wilderness, but by all means pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people who are with him.’ ”
You, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, that you should tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

The king of Israel said to his servants, “You know that Ramoth Gilead is ours, and we do nothing, and don’t take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?”
Therefore he sent horses, chariots, and a great army there. They came by night, and surrounded the city.
They were helped against them, and the Hagrites were delivered into their hand, and all who were with them; for they cried to God in the battle, and he answered them, because they put their trust in him.
“Now you intend to withstand the kingdom of Yahweh in the hand of the sons of David. You are a great multitude, and the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods are with you.
Asa cried to Yahweh his God, and said, “Yahweh, there is no one besides you to help, between the mighty and him who has no strength. Help us, Yahweh our God; for we rely on you, and in your name are we come against this multitude. Yahweh, you are our God. Don’t let man prevail against you.”
Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us. We don’t know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
Arise, Yahweh, in your anger. Lift up yourself against the rage of my adversaries. Awake for me. You have commanded judgment.
Yahweh administers judgment to the peoples. Judge me, Yahweh, according to my righteousness, and to my integrity that is in me.
They have now surrounded us in our steps. They set their eyes to cast us down to the earth.
Many bulls have surrounded me. Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.
For dogs have surrounded me. A company of evildoers have enclosed me. They have pierced my hands and feet.
You have turned my mourning into dancing for me. You have removed my sackcloth, and clothed me with gladness,
As for me, I said in my haste, “I am cut off from before your eyes.” Nevertheless you heard the voice of my petitions when I cried to you.
There is no king saved by the multitude of an army. A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.
Fearfulness and trembling have come on me. Horror has overwhelmed me.
They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, and fought against me without a cause.
They surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me. In Yahweh’s name I indeed cut them off.
Many are my persecutors and my adversaries. I haven’t swerved from your testimonies.
He will judge between the nations, and will decide concerning many peoples. They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
“Let the nations arouse themselves, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat; for there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations.
From the days of John the Baptizer until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.
Now therefore, you with the council inform the commanding officer that he should bring him down to you tomorrow, as though you were going to judge his case more exactly. We are ready to kill him before he comes near.”
For we don’t desire to have you uninformed, brothers, concerning our affliction which happened to us in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, so much that we despaired even of life.
I was let down in a basket through a window by the wall, and escaped his hands.
They went up over the width of the earth, and surrounded the camp of the saints, and the beloved city. Fire came down out of heaven from God and devoured them.
