Hebrew Text— 1 Samuel 29:4But the princes of the Philistines were angry with him; and the princes of the Philistines said to him, “Make the man return, that he may go back to his place where you have appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For with what should this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Should it not be with the heads of these men?

While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become children of light.” Jesus said these things, and he departed and hid himself from them.
For you were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,
You are all children of light and children of the day. We don’t belong to the night, nor to darkness,
Now the Hebrews who were with the Philistines before, and who went up with them into the camp, from all around, even they also turned to be with the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.
Saul struck the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, that is before Egypt.
He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
So David rose up early, he and his men, to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines, and the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
Then your servant said, ‘Please let the word of my lord the king bring rest; for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad. May Yahweh, your God, be with you.’ ”
Your servant Joab has done this thing to change the face of the matter. My lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.”
He has slandered your servant to my lord the king, but my lord the king is as an angel of God. Therefore do what is good in your eyes.
Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
Yahweh said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under the sky.”
We made a raid on the South of the Cherethites, and on that which belongs to Judah, and on the South of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.”
in Ziklag, in Meconah and in its towns,
Be merciful to me, God, be merciful to me, for my soul takes refuge in you. Yes, in the shadow of your wings, I will take refuge, until disaster has passed.
Jesus said to them, “The children of this age marry, and are given in marriage.
they also resorted to a ruse, and went and made as if they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks on their donkeys, and old, torn-up and bound up wine skins,
Ziklag, Madmannah, Sansannah,
Therefore now rise up early in the morning with the servants of your lord who have come with you; and as soon as you are up early in the morning, and have light, depart.”
When David and his men had come to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid on the South, and on Ziklag, and had struck Ziklag, and burned it with fire,
He said to me, ‘Who are you?’ I answered him, ‘I am an Amalekite.’
David brought up his men who were with him, every man with his household. They lived in the cities of Hebron.
Some of Manasseh also joined David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle; but they didn’t help them; for the lords of the Philistines sent him away after consultation, saying, “He will desert to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads.”
Preserve me, God, for I take refuge in you.
from men by your hand, Yahweh, from men of the world, whose portion is in this life. You fill the belly of your cherished ones. Your sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.
When evildoers came at me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.
Be merciful to me, Lord, for I call to you all day long.
They are of the world. Therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them.
Now the serpent was more subtle than any animal of the field which Yahweh God had made. He said to the woman, “Has God really said, ‘You shall not eat of any tree of the garden’?”
He said, “I will send you a young goat from the flock.” She said, “Will you give me a pledge, until you send it?”
Come, let’s deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it happen that when any war breaks out, they also join themselves to our enemies and fight against us, and escape out of the land.”
Amalek dwells in the land of the South. The Hittite, the Jebusite, and the Amorite dwell in the hill country. The Canaanite dwells by the sea, and along the side of the Jordan.”
He looked at Amalek, and took up his parable, and said, “Amalek was the first of the nations, But his latter end shall come to destruction.”
All their cities in the places in which they lived, and all their encampments, they burned with fire.
Jericho’s king sent to Rahab, saying, “Bring out the men who have come to you, who have entered into your house; for they have come to spy out all the land.”

The men of Israel were gathered together out of Naphtali, out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued Midian.
Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: therefore Ziklag belongs to the kings of Judah to this day.
Achish answered David, “I know that you are good in my sight, as an angel of God. Notwithstanding the princes of the Philistines have said, ‘He shall not go up with us to the battle.’
But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David’s brother; and Jonadab was a very subtle man.
The counsel of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if a man inquired at the inner sanctuary of God. All the counsel of Ahithophel both was like this with David and with Absalom.
Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” For Yahweh had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Yahweh might bring evil on Absalom.
Now the men observed diligently, and hurried to take this phrase; and they said, “Your brother Ben Hadad.” Then he said, “Go, bring him.” Then Ben Hadad came out to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
But Gehazi the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “Behold, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought. As Yahweh lives, I will run after him, and take something from him.”
If we say, ‘We will enter into the city,’ then the famine is in the city, and we will die there. If we sit still here, we also die. Now therefore come, and let’s surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they save us alive, we will live; and if they kill us, we will only die.”
Now therefore call to me all the prophets of Baal, all of his worshipers, and all of his priests. Let no one be absent; for I have a great sacrifice to Baal. Whoever is absent, he shall not live.” But Jehu did deceptively, intending to destroy the worshipers of Baal.
at Bethuel, at Hormah, at Ziklag,
But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, “Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Haven’t his servants come to you to search, to overthrow, and to spy out the land?”
He dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to every fortified city. He gave them food in abundance and he sought many wives for them.
He gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and those who lived with them out of Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon; for they came to him out of Israel in abundance when they saw that Yahweh his God was with him.
for he sent letters into all the king’s provinces, into every province according to its writing, and to every people in their language, that every man should rule his own house, speaking in the language of his own people.
Man sets an end to darkness, and searches out, to the furthest bound, the stones of obscurity and of thick darkness.
Answer me when I call, God of my righteousness. Give me relief from my distress. Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.
You will make them as a fiery furnace in the time of your anger. Yahweh will swallow them up in his wrath. The fire shall devour them.
My God, I have trusted in you. Don’t let me be shamed. Don’t let my enemies triumph over me.
Have mercy on me, Yahweh, for I am in distress. My eye, my soul, and my body waste away with grief.
Don’t let them say in their heart, “Aha! That’s the way we want it!” Don’t let them say, “We have swallowed him up!”
Be merciful to me, God, for man wants to swallow me up. All day long, he attacks and oppresses me.
Do you indeed speak righteousness, silent ones? Do you judge blamelessly, you sons of men?
Deliver me from my enemies, my God. Set me on high from those who rise up against me.
My God will go before me with his loving kindness. God will let me look at my enemies in triumph.
God, you have rejected us. You have broken us down. You have been angry. Restore us, again.
Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine. Ephraim also is the defense of my head. Judah is my scepter.
The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.
then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us;
to him who struck down the Egyptian firstborn; for his loving kindness endures forever;
but overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea; for his loving kindness endures forever:
In your loving kindness, cut off my enemies, and destroy all those who afflict my soul, For I am your servant.
Let’s swallow them up alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who go down into the pit.
if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures:
A man shall be commended according to his wisdom, but he who has a warped mind shall be despised.
The Lord has swallowed up all the dwellings of Jacob without pity. He has thrown down in his wrath the strongholds of the daughter of Judah. He has brought them down to the ground. He has profaned the kingdom and its princes.
The Lord has become as an enemy. He has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces. He has destroyed his strongholds. He has multiplied mourning and lamentation in the daughter of Judah.
All your enemies have opened their mouth wide against you. They hiss and gnash their teeth. They say, “We have swallowed her up. Certainly this is the day that we looked for. We have found it. We have seen it.”
Israel is swallowed up. Now they are among the nations like a worthless thing.
Hear this, you who desire to swallow up the needy, and cause the poor of the land to fail,
Peter said to him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Therefore the children are exempt.
I know what I will do, so that when I am removed from management, they may receive me into their houses.’
“His lord commended the dishonest manager because he had done wisely, for the children of this world are, in their own generation, wiser than the children of the light.
He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much. He who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.
The Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge says.
Let no one deceive himself. If anyone thinks that he is wise among you in this world, let him become a fool, that he may become wise.
But when this perishable body will have become imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then what is written will happen: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
However, I consider those things that were gain to me as a loss for Christ.
whose end is destruction, whose god is the belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who think about earthly things.
This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever doesn’t do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who doesn’t love his brother.
