Hebrew Text— 1 Samuel 9:11As they went up the ascent to the city, they found young maidens going out to draw water, and said to them, “Is the seer here?”

He made the camels kneel down outside the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time that women go out to draw water.
Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the back of the wilderness, and came to God’s mountain, to Horeb.
Now Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father-in-law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, how Yahweh had brought Israel out of Egypt.
behold, I am standing by this spring of water. Let it happen, that the maiden who comes out to draw, to whom I will say, “Please give me a little water from your pitcher to drink,”
Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and lived in the land of Midian, and he sat down by a well.
Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before Yahweh concerning all the righteous acts of Yahweh, which he did to you and to your fathers.
My people, remember now what Balak king of Moab devised, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the righteous acts of Yahweh.”
He looked, and behold, a well in the field, and saw three flocks of sheep lying there by it. For out of that well they watered the flocks. The stone on the well’s mouth was large.
Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. They came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.
A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.”
Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High.
Behold, I am standing by the spring of water. The daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water.

“Avenge the children of Israel on the Midianites. Afterward you shall be gathered to your people.”
then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them to death with stones; the lady, because she didn’t cry, being in the city; and the man, because he has humbled his neighbor’s wife. So you shall remove the evil from among you.
He provided the first part for himself, for the lawgiver’s portion reserved was reserved for him. He came with the heads of the people. He executed the righteousness of Yahweh, His ordinances with Israel.”
They chose new gods. Then war was in the gates. Was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?
Far from the noise of archers, in the places of drawing water, there they will rehearse Yahweh’s righteous acts, the righteous acts of his rule in Israel. “Then Yahweh’s people went down to the gates.
that the daughters of Israel went yearly to celebrate the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
and Ira the Jairite was chief minister to David.
So neither I, nor my brothers, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard who followed me, none of us took off our clothes. Everyone took his weapon to the water.
when I went out to the city gate, when I prepared my seat in the street.
Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this:
The wicked watch the righteous, and seek to kill him.
They conspire and lurk, watching my steps. They are eager to take my life.
For, behold, they lie in wait for my soul. The mighty gather themselves together against me, not for my disobedience, nor for my sin, Yahweh.
The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me.
They will utter the memory of your great goodness, and will sing of your righteousness.
If they say, “Come with us. Let’s lay in wait for blood. Let’s lurk secretly for the innocent without cause.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
A righteous man respects the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
Don’t move the ancient boundary stone which your fathers have set up.
Don’t lay in wait, wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous. Don’t destroy his resting place;
She seeks wool and flax, and works eagerly with her hands.
Therefore with joy you will draw water out of the wells of salvation.
and a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, and strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.
My people will live in a peaceful habitation, in safe dwellings, and in quiet resting places,
“Stand in the gate of Yahweh’s house, and proclaim this word there, and say, ‘Hear Yahweh’s word, all you of Judah, who enter in at these gates to worship Yahweh.’ ”
But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter. I didn’t know that they had devised plans against me, saying, “Let’s destroy the tree with its fruit, and let’s cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.”
We have drunken our water for money. Our wood is sold to us.
We get our bread at the peril of our lives, because of the sword of the wilderness.
For before those days there was no wages for man, nor any wages for an animal; neither was there any peace to him who went out or came in, because of the adversary. For I set all men everyone against his neighbor.
They took counsel together that they might take Jesus by deceit, and kill him.
but their plot became known to Saul. They watched the gates both day and night that they might kill him,
But Paul’s sister’s son heard they were lying in wait, and he came and entered into the barracks and told Paul.
asking a favor against him, that he would summon him to Jerusalem; plotting to kill him on the way.
