Hebrew Text— 2 Kings 6:18When they came down to him, Elisha prayed to Yahweh, and said, “Please strike this people with blindness.” He struck them with blindness according to Elishah’s word.

in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the Good News of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn on them.
Having eyes, don’t you see? Having ears, don’t you hear? Don’t you remember?
He said, “Go, and tell this people, ‘You hear indeed, but don’t understand. You see indeed, but don’t perceive.’
Make the heart of this people fat. Make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and turn again, and be healed.”
Jesus answered him, “Most certainly, I tell you, unless one is born anew, he can’t see God’s Kingdom.”
Break the arm of the wicked. As for the evil man, seek out his wickedness until you find none.
This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil.
behold, Yahweh’s hand is on your livestock which are in the field, on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the herds, and on the flocks with a very grievous pestilence.
But Yahweh’s hand was heavy on the people of Ashdod, and he destroyed them and struck them with tumors, even Ashdod and its borders.
They grope in the dark without light. He makes them stagger like a drunken man.
For day and night your hand was heavy on me. My strength was sapped in the heat of summer.
For the Father judges no one, but he has given all judgment to the Son,
So then, he has mercy on whom he desires, and he hardens whom he desires.
to the one a stench from death to death, to the other a sweet aroma from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?
Yahweh said to Moses, “When you go back into Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the wonders which I have put in your hand, but I will harden his heart and he will not let the people go.
You will grope at noonday, as the blind gropes in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways. You will only be oppressed and robbed always, and there will be no one to save you.
“Yes, the light of the wicked will be put out. The spark of his fire won’t shine.
For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but Yahweh upholds the righteous.
We grope for the wall like the blind. Yes, we grope as those who have no eyes. We stumble at noon as if it were twilight. Among those who are strong, we are like dead men.
‘Hear this now, foolish people without understanding, who have eyes, and don’t see, who have ears, and don’t hear:
It will happen in that day,” says the Lord Yahweh, “that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day.
that ‘seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest perhaps they should turn again, and their sins should be forgiven them.’ ”
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed,
He said, “To you it is given to know the mysteries of God’s Kingdom, but to the rest in parables; that ‘seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.’
Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”
I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in the darkness.
Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for a season!” Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.
As the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of God. As many as were appointed to eternal life believed.
to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’
but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, didn’t arrive at the law of righteousness.
They struck the men who were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves to find the door.
For it was of Yahweh to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and they said, “Send the ark of the God of Israel away, and let it go again to its own place, that it not kill us and our people.” For there was a deadly panic throughout all the city. The hand of God was very heavy there.
“Have pity on me. Have pity on me, you my friends; for the hand of God has touched me.
Have mercy on me, Yahweh, for I am faint. Yahweh, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
I said, “Yahweh, have mercy on me! Heal me, for I have sinned against you.”
Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things out of your law.
He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.
The way of the wicked is like darkness. They don’t know what they stumble over.
For Yahweh has poured out on you a spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes, the prophets; and he has covered your heads, the seers.
Then the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf will be unstopped.
to open the blind eyes, to bring the prisoners out of the dungeon, and those who sit in darkness out of the prison.
Behold, all you who kindle a fire, who adorn yourselves with torches around yourselves, walk in the flame of your fire, and among the torches that you have kindled. You will have this from my hand: you will lie down in sorrow.
O Yahweh, why do you make us wander from your ways, and harden our heart from your fear? Return for your servants’ sake, the tribes of your inheritance.
Why do you go about so much to change your ways? You will be ashamed of Egypt also, as you were ashamed of Assyria.
Return, you backsliding children, and I will heal your backsliding. “Behold, we have come to you; for you are Yahweh our God.
“Son of man, you dwell in the middle of the rebellious house, who have eyes to see, and don’t see, who have ears to hear, and don’t hear; for they are a rebellious house.
Therefore the Lord Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, the strong arm, and that which was broken. I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand.
“Come! Let’s return to Yahweh; for he has torn us to pieces, and he will heal us; he has injured us, and he will bind up our wounds.
“I will heal their waywardness. I will love them freely; for my anger is turned away from him.
It will happen in that day, that I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all the peoples. All who burden themselves with it will be severely wounded, and all the nations of the earth will be gathered together against it.
“That servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor, maimed, blind, and lame.’
But their minds were hardened, for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains, because in Christ it passes away.
But if while we sought to be justified in Christ, we ourselves also were found sinners, is Christ a servant of sin? Certainly not!
being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their hearts.
But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
Yahweh will strike you with madness, with blindness, and with astonishment of heart.
so that the sights that you see with your eyes will drive you mad.
You will become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword among all the peoples where Yahweh will lead you away.
In the morning, when the wine had gone out of Nabal, his wife told him these things, and his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.
Therefore he sent horses, chariots, and a great army there. They came by night, and surrounded the city.
“Now, my God, let, I beg you, your eyes be open, and let your ears be attentive, to the prayer that is made in this place.
Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, “Don’t fight with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel.”
They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope at noonday as in the night.
He will not depart out of darkness. The flame will dry up his branches. He will go away by the breath of God’s mouth.
He will be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.
or darkness, so that you can not see, and floods of waters cover you.
then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder blade, and my arm be broken from the bone.
From the wicked, their light is withheld. The high arm is broken.
The labor of fools wearies every one of them; for he doesn’t know how to go to the city.
It will happen in that day that Yahweh will punish the army of the high ones on high, and the kings of the earth on the earth.
Turn your ear, Yahweh, and hear. Open your eyes, Yahweh, and behold. Hear all of the words of Sennacherib, who has sent to defy the living God.
Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
that they may lack bread and water, be dismayed one with another, and pine away in their iniquity.
I will turn you around, and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you out, with all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed in full armor, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them handling swords;
Who is wise, that he may understand these things? Who is prudent, that he may know them? For the ways of Yahweh are right, and the righteous walk in them; But the rebellious stumble in them.
Woe to the worthless shepherd who leaves the flock! The sword will be on his arm, and on his right eye. His arm will be completely withered, and his right eye will be totally blinded!”
In that day,” says Yahweh, “I will strike every horse with terror, and his rider with madness; and I will open my eyes on the house of Judah, and will strike every horse of the peoples with blindness.
In that day I will make the chieftains of Judah like a pan of fire among wood, and like a flaming torch among sheaves; and they will devour all the surrounding peoples, on the right hand and on the left; and Jerusalem will yet again dwell in their own place, even in Jerusalem.
Jesus said to him, “Go your way. Your faith has made you well.” Immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus on the way.
In that hour he cured many of diseases and plagues and evil spirits; and to many who were blind he gave sight.
They answered that they didn’t know where it was from.
He therefore answered, “I don’t know if he is a sinner. One thing I do know: that though I was blind, now I see.”
Jesus said, “I came into this world for judgment, that those who don’t see may see; and that those who see may become blind.”
“He has blinded their eyes and he hardened their heart, lest they should see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, and would turn, and I would heal them.”
The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent,
What then? That which Israel seeks for, that he didn’t obtain, but the chosen ones obtained it, and the rest were hardened.
