Hebrew Text— Deuteronomy 23:22But if you refrain from making a vow, it shall be no sin in you.

It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows.
While you kept it, didn’t it remain your own? After it was sold, wasn’t it in your power? How is it that you have conceived this thing in your heart? You haven’t lied to men, but to God.”
Also I shook out my lap, and said, “So may God shake out every man from his house, and from his labor, that doesn’t perform this promise; even may he be shaken out and emptied like this.” All the assembly said, “Amen,” and praised Yahweh. The people did according to this promise.
It is better that you should not vow, than that you should vow and not pay.
I will pay my vows to Yahweh, yes, in the presence of all his people,
