Hebrew Text— Deuteronomy 6:7and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.

Only be careful, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes saw, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your children and your children’s children—
Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit.
He said to them, “Set your heart to all the words which I testify to you today, which you shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law.
“You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men.
Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life.
From infancy, you have known the holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith, which is in Christ Jesus.
You offspring of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.
An evil man is trapped by sinfulness of lips, but the righteous shall come out of trouble.
My son, give me your heart; and let your eyes keep in my ways.
The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but a fool is swallowed by his own lips.
Remember therefore how you have received and heard. Keep it and repent. If therefore you won’t watch, I will come as a thief, and you won’t know what hour I will come upon you.
This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.
He spoke to the children of Israel, saying, “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What do these stones mean?’
I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.
Yes, even when I am old and gray-haired, God, don’t forsake me, until I have declared your strength to the next generation, your might to everyone who is to come.
My son, let them not depart from your eyes. Keep sound wisdom and discretion:
Discipline your son, for there is hope; don’t be a willing party to his death.
but now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of your mouth.
Fathers, don’t provoke your children, so that they won’t be discouraged.
Therefore we ought to pay greater attention to the things that were heard, lest perhaps we drift away.
If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.
My son, listen to your father’s instruction, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching:
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
Even so, let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, with what will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
You fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
My son, keep my words. Lay up my commandments within you.
The rod of correction gives wisdom, but a child left to himself causes shame to his mother.
This is the end of the matter. All has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.
He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.”
nor filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not appropriate, but rather giving of thanks.
Be very careful, for you saw no kind of form on the day that Yahweh spoke to you in Horeb out of the middle of the fire,
Be careful, lest you forget the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he made with you, and make yourselves a carved image in the form of anything which Yahweh your God has forbidden you.
Therefore I have also given him to Yahweh. As long as he lives he is given to Yahweh.” He worshiped Yahweh there.
When you lie down, you will not be afraid. Yes, you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet.
A prudent man keeps his knowledge, but the hearts of fools proclaim foolishness.
He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
Brothers, even if a man is caught in some fault, you who are spiritual must restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to yourself so that you also aren’t tempted.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to the Lord.
Then Jacob said to his household, and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, change your garments.
and that you may tell in the hearing of your son, and of your son’s son, what things I have done to Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that you may know that I am Yahweh.”
For I have kept Yahweh’s ways, and have not wickedly departed from my God.
You count my wanderings. You put my tears into your container. Aren’t they in your book?
The mouth of the righteous produces wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off.
The heart of the righteous weighs answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes out evil.
Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.
A fool also multiplies words. Man doesn’t know what will be; and that which will be after him, who can tell him?
Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come, and the years draw near, when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them;”
The living, the living, he shall praise you, as I do today. The father shall make known your truth to the children.
Be careful therefore how you hear. For whoever has, to him will be given; and whoever doesn’t have, from him will be taken away even that which he thinks he has.”
So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;
that you might fear Yahweh your God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you—you, your son, and your son’s son, all the days of your life; and that your days may be prolonged.
“Now therefore write this song for yourselves, and teach it to the children of Israel. Put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel.
We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of Yahweh, his strength, and his wondrous deeds that he has done.
For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Yahweh may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him.”
The secret things belong to Yahweh our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
One generation will commend your works to another, and will declare your mighty acts.
Tell your children about it, and have your children tell their children, and their children, another generation.
and that their children, who have not known, may hear and learn to fear Yahweh your God, as long as you live in the land where you go over the Jordan to possess it.”
Shall they not teach you, tell you, and utter words out of their heart?
I will also meditate on all your work, and consider your doings.
For he established a covenant in Jacob, and appointed a teaching in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children;
I will be careful to live a blameless life. When will you come to me? I will walk within my house with a blameless heart.
I will also speak of your statutes before kings, and will not be disappointed.
Let my tongue sing of your word, for all your commandments are righteousness.
Neither do those who go by say, “The blessing of Yahweh be on you. We bless you in Yahweh’s name.”
When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you.
The lips of the righteous feed many, but the foolish die for lack of understanding.
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of fools gush out folly.
The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so with the heart of fools.
Then those who feared Yahweh spoke one with another; and Yahweh listened, and heard, and a book of memory was written before him, for those who feared Yahweh, and who honored his name.
The good man out of his good treasure brings out good things, and the evil man out of his evil treasure brings out evil things.
The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings out that which is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings out that which is evil, for out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks.
They talked with each other about all of these things which had happened.
Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.
Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts. Always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear,
It will happen, when your children ask you, ‘What do you mean by this service?’
When your son asks you in time to come, saying, “What do the testimonies, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Yahweh our God has commanded you mean?”
All the people who were in the gate, and the elders, said, “We are witnesses. May Yahweh make the woman who has come into your house like Rachel and like Leah, which both built the house of Israel; and treat you worthily in Ephrathah, and be famous in Bethlehem.
The mouth of the righteous talks of wisdom. His tongue speaks justice.
