Instruct a wise person, and he will be still wiser. Teach a righteous person, and he will increase in learning.
Moses brought their cause before Yahweh.
Then they said, “We will restore them, and will require nothing of them. We will do so, even as you say.” Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they would do according to this promise.
I contended with them, and cursed them, and struck certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, “You shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor take their daughters for your sons, or for yourselves.
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who is wise listens to counsel.
Saul said to the Kenites, “Go, depart, go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
Shall we then listen to you to do all this great evil, to trespass against our God in marrying foreign women?”
Yahweh was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man. He was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
He said, “Certainly I will be with you. This will be the token to you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”
They said to Moses, “Speak with us yourself, and we will listen; but don’t let God speak with us, lest we die.”
There were certain men, who were unclean because of the dead body of a man, so that they could not keep the Passover on that day, and they came before Moses and Aaron on that day.
(I stood between Yahweh and you at that time, to show you Yahweh’s word; for you were afraid because of the fire, and didn’t go up onto the mountain) saying,
For they have taken of their daughters for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy offspring have mixed themselves with the peoples of the lands. Yes, the hand of the princes and rulers has been chief in this trespass.”
The rich and the poor have this in common: Yahweh is the maker of them all.
Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth, and teach you what you shall speak.”
He will be your spokesman to the people. It will happen that he will be to you a mouth, and you will be to him as God.
Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire of God.
Listen now to my voice. I will give you counsel, and God be with you. You represent the people before God, and bring the causes to God.
Be careful, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be for a snare among you;
It is a trespass offering. He is certainly guilty before Yahweh.”
When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses, chariots, and a people more numerous than you, you shall not be afraid of them; for Yahweh your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
He was king in Jeshurun, when the heads of the people were gathered, all the tribes of Israel together.
Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go.”
She lived under Deborah’s palm tree between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim; and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.
But his wife said to him, “If Yahweh were pleased to kill us, he wouldn’t have received a burnt offering and a meal offering at our hand, and he wouldn’t have shown us all these things, nor would he have told us such things as these at this time.”

Then your servant said, ‘Please let the word of my lord the king bring rest; for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad. May Yahweh, your God, be with you.’ ”
As he talked with him, the king said to him, “Have we made you one of the king’s counselors? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” Then the prophet stopped, and said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not listened to my counsel.”
Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered Ezra, “We have trespassed against our God, and have married foreign women of the peoples of the land. Yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this thing.
Now therefore let’s make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and those who are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God. Let it be done according to the law.
Then Ezra arose, and made the chiefs of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word. So they swore.
Of the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Elijah.
After them, Zadok the son of Immer made repairs across from his own house. After him, Shemaiah the son of Shecaniah, the keeper of the east gate made repairs.
joined with their brothers, their nobles, and entered into a curse, and into an oath, to walk in God’s law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of Yahweh our Lord, and his ordinances and his statutes;
For when the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it commended me:
“Hear my words, you wise men. Give ear to me, you who have knowledge.
“Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness, from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
“If now you have understanding, hear this. Listen to the voice of my words.
Men of understanding will tell me, yes, every wise man who hears me:
that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel:
The wise in heart accept commandments, but a chattering fool will fall.
Wise men lay up knowledge, but the mouth of the foolish is near ruin.
Whoever loves correction loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.
The heart of one who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly.
Joy comes to a man with the reply of his mouth. How good is a word at the right time!
The heart of the discerning gets knowledge. The ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom. When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.
Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart; so does earnest counsel from a man’s friend.
But they didn’t listen. They didn’t turn their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, and might not receive instruction.
Many will purify themselves, and make themselves white, and be refined; but the wicked will do wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand; but those who are wise will understand.
Judah has dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah has profaned the holiness of Yahweh which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.
Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born.
But Jesus held his peace. The high priest answered him, “I adjure you by the living God, that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.”
teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Therefore I sent to you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”
Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.
He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside, and explained to him the way of God more accurately.
Now I exhort you to cheer up, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.
I speak as to wise men. Judge what I say.
If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the smelling be?
The eye can’t tell the hand, “I have no need for you,” or again the head to the feet, “I have no need for you.”
For you all can prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be exhorted.
Such confidence we have through Christ toward God,
But if you show partiality, you commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.
I have not written to you because you don’t know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.
