Genesis 35:1
Hebrew Text— Genesis 35:1God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel, and live there. Make there an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”

Yahweh is near to all those who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
Yahweh will also be a high tower for the oppressed; a high tower in times of trouble.
Yahweh’s name is a strong tower: the righteous run to him, and are safe.
Yahweh of Armies is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge.
Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.”
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you.
that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set before us.
“Therefore Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘I said indeed that your house and the house of your father should walk before me forever.’ But now Yahweh says, ‘Far be it from me; for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me will be cursed.
And how will they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Good News of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”
Jacob said, “God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, Yahweh, who said to me, ‘Return to your country, and to your relatives, and I will do you good,’
For what great nation is there that has a god so near to them as Yahweh our God is whenever we call on him?
It was so, when the days of their feasting had run their course, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned, and renounced God in their hearts.” Job did so continually.
You frustrate the plan of the poor, because Yahweh is his refuge.
I cried to you, Yahweh. I said, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”
In the fear of Yahweh is a secure fortress, and he will be a refuge for his children.
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
It will happen that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
By faith, he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.
for I will give all the land which you see to you and to your offspring forever.
Abraham said, “God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they both went together.
The man said, “Let me go, for the day breaks.” Jacob said, “I won’t let you go unless you bless me.”
Moses built an altar, and called its name “Yahweh our Banner”.
Yahweh, you have heard the desire of the humble. You will prepare their heart. You will cause your ear to hear,
Call on me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”
My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth.
Though I walk in the middle of trouble, you will revive me. You will stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies. Your right hand will save me.
You shall seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart.
‘Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great and difficult things, which you don’t know.’
Yahweh relented concerning this. “It shall not be,” says Yahweh.
If anyone serves me, let him follow me. Where I am, there my servant will also be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
to an incorruptible and undefiled inheritance that doesn’t fade away, reserved in Heaven for you,
Abram moved his tent, and came and lived by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to Yahweh.
So Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.
The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give it to you, and to your offspring after you I will give the land.”
Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him “Bethel”.
Israel traveled with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father, Isaac.
Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,
Joseph said to his brothers, “I am dying, but God will surely visit you, and bring you up out of this land to the land which he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”
Moreover he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God.
He said, “Certainly I will be with you. This will be the token to you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”
Yahweh said to Moses in Midian, “Go, return into Egypt; for all the men who sought your life are dead.”
When a man vows a vow to Yahweh, or swears an oath to bind his soul with a bond, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.
The house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel. (The name of the city before that was Luz.)
When Yahweh raised up judges for them, then Yahweh was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for it grieved Yahweh because of their groaning by reason of those who oppressed them and troubled them.
Then Gideon built an altar there to Yahweh, and called it “Yahweh is Peace.” To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
therefore, behold, I will bring evil on the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam everyone who urinates on a wall, he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Israel, and will utterly sweep away the house of Jeroboam, as a man sweeps away dung, until it is all gone.
For the whole house of Ahab will perish. I will cut off from Ahab everyone who urinates against a wall, both him who is shut up and him who is left at large in Israel.
For Yahweh saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter; for all, slave and free, and there was no helper for Israel.
Make vows to Yahweh your God, and fulfill them! Let all of his neighbors bring presents to him who is to be feared.
Relent, Yahweh! How long? Have compassion on your servants!
Yahweh is on my side. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
For Yahweh will judge his people and have compassion on his servants.
“So you will know that I am Yahweh, your God, dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain. Then Jerusalem will be holy, and no strangers will pass through her any more.
For Yahweh restores the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel; for the destroyers have destroyed them, and ruined their vine branches.
Yahweh, the Lord, is my strength. He makes my feet like deer’s feet, and enables me to go in high places. For the music director, on my stringed instruments.
Moses fled at this saying, and became a stranger in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons.
But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, that through me the message might be fully proclaimed, and that all the Gentiles might hear. So I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
He, in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and petitions with strong crying and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear,
By faith, he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
Yahweh God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”
A son was also born to Seth, and he named him Enosh. At that time men began to call on Yahweh’s name.
You shall take seven pairs of every clean animal with you, the male and his female. Of the animals that are not clean, take two, the male and his female.
Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and called there on the name of Yahweh, the Everlasting God.
He made the camels kneel down outside the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time that women go out to draw water.
Behold, Yahweh stood above it, and said, “I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. I will give the land you lie on to you and to your offspring.
He looked, and behold, a well in the field, and saw three flocks of sheep lying there by it. For out of that well they watered the flocks. The stone on the well’s mouth was large.
Let’s arise, and go up to Bethel. I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me on the way which I went.”
even by the God of your father, who will help you, by the Almighty, who will bless you, with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies below, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb.
The eternal God is your dwelling place. Underneath are the everlasting arms. He thrust out the enemy from before you, and said, ‘Destroy!’
Yahweh said to him, “This is the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your offspring.’ I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there.”
The border passed along from there to Luz, to the side of Luz (also called Bethel), southward. The border went down to Ataroth Addar, by the mountain that lies on the south of Beth Horon the lower.
“Then you will go on forward from there, and you will come to the oak of Tabor. Three men will meet you there going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three young goats, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a container of wine.
The children of Benjamin also lived from Geba onward, at Michmash and Aija, and at Bethel and its towns,
Yahweh helps them and rescues them. He rescues them from the wicked and saves them, because they have taken refuge in him.
As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants after you, God.
Trust in Yahweh forever; for in Yah, Yahweh, is an everlasting Rock.
“The Lord Yahweh has sworn by himself,” says Yahweh, the God of Armies: “I abhor the pride of Jacob, and detest his fortresses. Therefore I will deliver up the city with all that is in it.
Yahweh has sworn by the pride of Jacob, “Surely I will never forget any of their works.
The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I’m coming, another steps down before me.”
When the chief Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the crown of glory that doesn’t fade away.
He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.
God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Paddan Aram, and blessed him.
Noah built an altar to Yahweh, and took of every clean animal, and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
He left from there to go to the mountain on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to Yahweh and called on Yahweh’s name.
He said, “Hagar, Sarai’s servant, where did you come from? Where are you going?” She said, “I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai.”
Abraham called the name of that place “Yahweh Will Provide”. As it is said to this day, “On Yahweh’s mountain, it will be provided.”
He built an altar there, and called on Yahweh’s name, and pitched his tent there. There Isaac’s servants dug a well.
then this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, will be God’s house. Of all that you will give me I will surely give a tenth to you.”
Yahweh said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your fathers, and to your relatives, and I will be with you.”
I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar, where you vowed a vow to me. Now arise, get out from this land, and return to the land of your birth.’ ”
He built an altar there, and called the place El Beth El; because there God was revealed to him, when he fled from the face of his brother.
Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and lived in the land of Midian, and he sat down by a well.
For Yahweh will judge his people, and have compassion on his servants, when he sees that their power is gone; that there is no one remaining, shut up or left at large.
He set the one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
He chooses our inheritance for us, the glory of Jacob whom he loved.
He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him.
When you vow a vow to God, don’t defer to pay it; for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay that which you vow.
Indeed, he struggled with the angel, and prevailed; he wept, and made supplication to him. He found him at Bethel, and there he spoke with us,
Behold, on the mountains the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace! Keep your feasts, Judah! Perform your vows, for the wicked one will no more pass through you. He is utterly cut off.
