As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to save many people alive, as is happening today.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away.”
You have turned my mourning into dancing for me. You have removed my sackcloth, and clothed me with gladness,
Will you not from this time cry to me, ‘My Father, you are the guide of my youth?’
You shall tell Pharaoh, ‘Yahweh says, Israel is my son, my firstborn,
Blessed is the man whom you discipline, Yah, and teach out of your law,
I have seen servants on horses, and princes walking like servants on the earth.
Those ransomed by Yahweh will return, and come with singing to Zion. Everlasting joy shall be on their heads. They will obtain gladness and joy. Sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
to proclaim the year of Yahweh’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,
Therefore the Lord Yahweh says, “Behold, my servants will eat, but you will be hungry; behold, my servants will drink, but you will be thirsty. Behold, my servants will rejoice, but you will be disappointed;
Let a cry be heard from their houses when you bring a troop suddenly on them; for they have dug a pit to take me and hidden snares for my feet.
For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?
“But woe to you who are rich! For you have received your consolation.
Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand; and all the women went out after her with tambourines and with dances.
When Haman saw that Mordecai didn’t bow down, nor pay him homage, Haman was full of wrath.
Even in laughter the heart may be sorrowful, and mirth may end in heaviness.
For a servant when he is king, a fool when he is filled with food,
to provide for those who mourn in Zion, to give to them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of Yahweh, that he may be glorified.
In those days the house of Judah will walk with the house of Israel, and they will come together out of the land of the north to the land that I gave for an inheritance to your fathers.
For this, clothe yourself with sackcloth, lament and wail; for the fierce anger of Yahweh hasn’t turned back from us.
Wail, you shepherds, and cry. Wallow in dust, you leader of the flock; for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions have fully come, and you will fall like fine pottery.
and will cause their voice to be heard over you, and will cry bitterly. They will cast up dust on their heads. They will wallow in the ashes.
Afterward the children of Israel shall return, and seek Yahweh their God, and David their king, and shall come with trembling to Yahweh and to his blessings in the last days.
I will pour on David’s house, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they will look to me whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for his only son, and will grieve bitterly for him, as one grieves for his firstborn.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.
Woe to you, you who are full now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will not be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God.
Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep.
Don’t be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
Blessed is a person who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him.
Yahweh, the God of Israel, you are righteous; for we are left a remnant that has escaped, as it is today. Behold, we are before you in our guiltiness; for no one can stand before you because of this.”
Now while Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before God’s house, there was gathered together to him out of Israel a very great assembly of men and women and children; for the people wept very bitterly.
from men by your hand, Yahweh, from men of the world, whose portion is in this life. You fill the belly of your cherished ones. Your sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.
For his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.
I was mute. I didn’t open my mouth, because you did it.
Like snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honor is not fitting for a fool.
For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool. This also is vanity.
I chattered like a swallow or a crane. I moaned like a dove. My eyes weaken looking upward. Lord, I am oppressed. Be my security.”
Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel and his Maker says: “You ask me about the things that are to come, concerning my sons, and you command me concerning the work of my hands!
I have seen his ways, and will heal him. I will lead him also, and restore comforts to him and to his mourners.
We all roar like bears and moan bitterly like doves. We look for justice, but there is none, for salvation, but it is far off from us.
Who led them through the depths, like a horse in the wilderness, so that they didn’t stumble?
Oh that my head were waters, and my eyes a spring of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!
Let them make haste and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears and our eyelids gush out with waters.
I will build you again, and you will be built, O virgin of Israel. You will again be adorned with your tambourines, and will go out in the dances of those who make merry.
“I have surely heard Ephraim grieving thus, ‘You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as an untrained calf. Turn me, and I will be turned; for you are Yahweh my God.
Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I still earnestly remember him. therefore my heart yearns for him. I will surely have mercy on him,” says Yahweh.
Yahweh said to him, “Go through the middle of the city, through the middle of Jerusalem, and set a mark on the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry over all the abominations that are done within it.”
Then join them for yourself to one another into one stick, that they may become one in your hand.
I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. One king will be king to them all. They will no longer be two nations. They won’t be divided into two kingdoms any more at all.
The children of Judah and the children of Israel will be gathered together, and they will appoint themselves one head, and will go up from the land; for great will be the day of Jezreel.
I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will make you wear sackcloth on all your bodies, and baldness on every head. I will make it like the mourning for an only son, and its end like a bitter day.
He has filled the hungry with good things. He has sent the rich away empty.
But the tax collector, standing far away, wouldn’t even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’
Even to this present hour we hunger, thirst, are naked, are beaten, and have no certain dwelling place.
But when we are judged, we are punished by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.
Don’t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him.
Let them praise his name in the dance! Let them sing praises to him with tambourine and harp!
a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
The remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah will again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.
“Behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
that you may remember, and be confounded, and never open your mouth any more, because of your shame, when I have forgiven you all that you have done,” says the Lord Yahweh.’ ”
“However on the tenth day of this seventh month is the day of atonement. It shall be a holy convocation to you. You shall afflict yourselves and you shall offer an offering made by fire to Yahweh.
When Yahweh’s angel spoke these words to all the children of Israel, the people lifted up their voice and wept.
Then Haman went out that day joyful and glad of heart, but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, that he didn’t stand up nor move for him, he was filled with wrath against Mordecai.
Therefore my harp has turned to mourning, and my pipe into the voice of those who weep.
Before I was afflicted, I went astray; but now I observe your word.
It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn your statutes.
Delicate living is not appropriate for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
I said of laughter, “It is foolishness;” and of mirth, “What does it accomplish?”
Daughter of my people, clothe yourself with sackcloth, and wallow in ashes! Mourn, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation, for the destroyer will suddenly come on us.
They will come with weeping. I will lead them with petitions. I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they won’t stumble; for I am a father to Israel. Ephraim is my firstborn.
“In those days, and in that time,” says Yahweh, “the children of Israel will come, they and the children of Judah together; they will go on their way weeping, and will seek Yahweh their God.
The joy of our heart has ceased. Our dance is turned into mourning.
But those of those who escape, they will escape and will be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them moaning, everyone in his iniquity.
In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three whole weeks.
You have said, ‘It is vain to serve God;’ and ‘What profit is it that we have followed his instructions, and that we have walked mournfully before Yahweh of Armies?
Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.
“But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that you, in your lifetime, received your good things, and Lazarus, in the same way, bad things. But here he is now comforted, and you are in anguish.
Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming on you.
Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved in various trials,
Streams of tears run down my eyes, because they don’t observe your law.
Then the virgin will rejoice in the dance; the young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.
Standing behind at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head, kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
