The voice of one who calls out, “Prepare the way of Yahweh in the wilderness! Make a level highway in the desert for our God.
For this is he, of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of Yahweh comes.
As it is written in the prophets, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you:
And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways,
He said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”
There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John.
In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and in his pity he redeemed them. He bore them, and carried them all the days of old.
For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, make the way of the Lord ready! Make his paths straight!”
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching,
While he was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
But he, passing through the middle of them, went his way.
This is he of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’
For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.
Behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is truly the Christ?
They sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.
They saw him afar off, and before he came near to them, they conspired against him to kill him.
I will raise them up a prophet from among their brothers, like you. I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him.
Moses commanded us a law, an inheritance for the assembly of Jacob.
so that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud; for Yahweh’s glory filled Yahweh’s house.
“If there is beside him an angel, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man what is right for him;
Tell those who have a fearful heart, “Be strong! Don’t be afraid! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, God’s retribution. He will come and save you.
“Come near to me and hear this: “From the beginning I have not spoken in secret; from the time that it happened, I was there.” Now the Lord Yahweh has sent me with his Spirit.
Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the Good News of the Kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.
They asked him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
Now very early in the morning, he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him. He sat down and taught them.
Therefore they took up stones to throw at him, but Jesus was hidden, and went out of the temple, having gone through the middle of them, and so passed by.
She said to him, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, God’s Son, he who comes into the world.”
Now before the feast of the Passover, Jesus, knowing that his time had come that he would depart from this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
When they had stood Peter and John in the middle of them, they inquired, “By what power, or in what name, have you done this?”
You received the law as it was ordained by angels, and didn’t keep it!”
Paul said, “John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”
But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your Kingdom.
The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs. To him will the obedience of the peoples be.
He said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you plan to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?” Moses was afraid, and said, “Surely this thing is known.”
“Behold, I send an angel before you, to keep you by the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.
There I will meet with the children of Israel; and the place shall be sanctified by my glory.
Who may ascend to Yahweh’s hill? Who may stand in his holy place?
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin will conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
For a child is born to us. A son is given to us; and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
I have not spoken in secret, in a place of the land of darkness. I didn’t say to the offspring of Jacob, ‘Seek me in vain.’ I, Yahweh, speak righteousness. I declare things that are right.
All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered together to you. The rams of Nebaioth will serve you. They will be accepted as offerings on my altar; and I will beautify my glorious house.
I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to Sheol with those who descend into the pit. All the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the lower parts of the earth.
Then Haggai, Yahweh’s messenger, spoke Yahweh’s message to the people, saying, “I am with you,” says Yahweh.
For the priest’s lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth; for he is the messenger of Yahweh of Armies.
and said to him, “Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?”
But the Pharisees went out, and conspired against him, how they might destroy him.
When they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went away.
Jesus went out from the temple, and was going on his way. His disciples came to him to show him the buildings of the temple.
In that hour Jesus said to the multitudes, “Have you come out as against a robber with swords and clubs to seize me? I sat daily in the temple teaching, and you didn’t arrest me.
The chief priests and the scribes heard it, and sought how they might destroy him. For they feared him, because all the multitude was astonished at his teaching.
If we should say, ‘From men’ ”—they feared the people, for all held John to really be a prophet.
Every day Jesus was teaching in the temple, and every night he would go out and spend the night on the mountain that is called Olivet.
Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and elders, who had come against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?
They asked him, “Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?”
You yourselves testify that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before him.’
After these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee, for he wouldn’t walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.
For no one does anything in secret while he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, reveal yourself to the world.”
But when it was now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.
Therefore some of them of Jerusalem said, “Isn’t this he whom they seek to kill?
Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don’t know.
But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?
The following night, the Lord stood by him and said, “Cheer up, Paul, for as you have testified about me at Jerusalem, so you must testify also at Rome.”
and if children, then heirs: heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.
has at the end of these days spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds.
All the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring, because you have obeyed my voice.’ ”
and I will shake all nations. The precious things of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory, says Yahweh of Armies.
“Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me; and the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, behold, he comes!” says Yahweh of Armies.
When he had come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching, and said, “By what authority do you do these things? Who gave you this authority?”
They tried to seize him, but they feared the multitude; for they perceived that he spoke the parable against them. They left him, and went away.
Jesus responded, as he taught in the temple, “How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?
It was now two days before the feast of the Passover and the unleavened bread, and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might seize him by deception, and kill him.
Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.
After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the middle of the teachers, both listening to them, and asking them questions.
“But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.’
Didn’t Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill me?”
Some of them would have arrested him, but no one laid hands on him.
They sought again to seize him, and he went out of their hand.
Jesus answered him, “I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where the Jews always meet. I said nothing in secret.
For in him all the fullness of the Deity dwells bodily,
