Hebrew Text— Nehemiah 8:18Also day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. They kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according to the ordinance.

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
He who spares his words has knowledge. He who is even tempered is a man of understanding.
In the multitude of words there is no lack of disobedience, but he who restrains his lips does wisely.
Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.
They shall be abundantly satisfied with the abundance of your house. You will make them drink of the river of your pleasures.
He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a quick temper displays folly.
He who answers before he hears, that is folly and shame to him.
One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty; one who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city.
“Hey! Come, everyone who thirsts, to the waters! Come, he who has no money, buy, and eat! Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.
“Be angry, and don’t sin.” Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath,
Don’t be hasty in your spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.
but now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of your mouth.
A wrathful man stirs up contention, but one who is slow to anger appeases strife.
The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam, therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.
Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”
You are to teach the children of Israel all the statutes which Yahweh has spoken to them by Moses.”
“Speak to the children of Israel, and say, ‘On the fifteenth day of this seventh month is the feast of booths for seven days to Yahweh.
Seven days you shall offer an offering made by fire to Yahweh. On the eighth day shall be a holy convocation to you. You shall offer an offering made by fire to Yahweh. It is a solemn assembly; you shall do no regular work.
The princes gave offerings for the dedication of the altar in the day that it was anointed. The princes gave their offerings before the altar.
“ ‘On the eighth day you shall have a solemn assembly. You shall do no regular work;
Jehu said, “Sanctify a solemn assembly for Baal!” So they proclaimed it.
The king went up to Yahweh’s house, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, with the priests, the prophets, and all the people, both small and great; and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in Yahweh’s house.
For Ezra had set his heart to seek Yahweh’s law, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
Then you will delight in the sacrifices of righteousness, in burnt offerings and in whole burnt offerings. Then they will offer bulls on your altar.
A fool shows his annoyance the same day, but one who overlooks an insult is prudent.
He who is quick to become angry will commit folly, and a crafty man is hated.
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of fools gush out folly.
The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense.
Like a city that is broken down and without walls is a man whose spirit is without restraint.
Whatever you will ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice.
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body, and be thankful.
“ ‘Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread; even the first day you shall put away yeast out of your houses, for whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.
Joshua said to Achan, “My son, please give glory to Yahweh, the God of Israel, and make confession to him. Tell me now what you have done! Don’t hide it from me!”
He set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the wide place at the gate of the city, and spoke encouragingly to them, saying,
He said to the Levites who taught all Israel, who were holy to Yahweh, “Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built. It will no longer be a burden on your shoulders. Now serve Yahweh your God, and his people Israel.
They stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of Yahweh their God a fourth part of the day; and a fourth part they confessed, and worshiped Yahweh their God.
God, you are my God. I will earnestly seek you. My soul thirsts for you. My flesh longs for you, in a dry and weary land, where there is no water.
I spread out my hands to you. My soul thirsts for you, like a parched land.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit.
Therefore with joy you will draw water out of the wells of salvation.
“For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the spring of living waters, and cut out cisterns for themselves: broken cisterns that can’t hold water.
but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and animal, and let them cry mightily to God. Yes, let them turn everyone from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands.
Yahweh is slow to anger, and great in power, and will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. Yahweh has his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
Gather yourselves together, yes, gather together, you nation that has no shame,
But I tell you that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause will be in danger of the judgment. Whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ will be in danger of the council. Whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will not be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” He who hears, let him say, “Come!” He who is thirsty, let him come. He who desires, let him take the water of life freely.
“It shall be a statute to you forever: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and shall do no kind of work, whether native-born or a stranger who lives as a foreigner among you;
On the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread to Yahweh. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread.
“Make two trumpets of silver. You shall make them of beaten work. You shall use them for the calling of the congregation, and for the journeying of the camps.
But to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose out of all your tribes, to put his name there, you shall seek his habitation, and you shall come there.
Didn’t I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? Didn’t I give to the house of your father all the offerings of the children of Israel made by fire?
Jehoshaphat was alarmed, and set himself to seek to Yahweh. He proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
The whole assembly took counsel to keep another seven days, and they kept another seven days with gladness.
Oh that you would be completely silent! Then you would be wise.
The princes refrained from talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.
Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares.
Then Micaiah declared to them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.
So the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll; and he took it out of the room of Elishama the scribe. Jehudi read it in the hearing of the king, and in the hearing of all the princes who stood beside the king.
When they have accomplished the days, it shall be that on the eighth day, and forward, the priests shall make your burnt offerings on the altar, and your peace offerings. Then I will accept you,’ says the Lord Yahweh.”
Blow the trumpet in Zion! Sanctify a fast. Call a solemn assembly.
The people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from their greatest even to their least.
but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
Therefore I sent to you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”
Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.
He said to me, “I have become the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give freely to him who is thirsty from the spring of the water of life.
He showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb,
You shall keep it as a feast to Yahweh seven days in the year. It is a statute forever throughout your generations. You shall keep it in the seventh month.
“ ‘On the fifteenth day of the seventh month you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no regular work. You shall keep a feast to Yahweh seven days.
They shall teach Jacob your ordinances, and Israel your law. They shall put incense before you, and whole burnt offering on your altar.
Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered a book to me.” Then Shaphan read it before the king.
On the eighth day, they held a solemn assembly; for they kept the dedication of the altar seven days, and the feast seven days.
Hezekiah spoke encouragingly to all the Levites who had good understanding in the service of Yahweh. So they ate throughout the feast for the seven days, offering sacrifices of peace offerings, and making confession to Yahweh, the God of their fathers.
Sanctify a fast. Call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders, and all the inhabitants of the land, to the house of Yahweh, your God, and cry to Yahweh.
Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!
So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;
Six days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to Yahweh your God. You shall do no work.
when all Israel has come to appear before Yahweh your God in the place which he will choose, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing.
