Hebrew Text— Proverbs 22:13The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!”

Then he said to him, “Because you have not obeyed Yahweh’s voice, behold, as soon as you have departed from me, a lion will kill you.” As soon as he had departed from him, a lion found him and killed him.
As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him.
The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the desire of the diligent shall be fully satisfied.
The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
The sluggard says, “There is a lion in the road! A fierce lion roams the streets!”
that you won’t be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and perseverance inherited the promises.
How long will you sleep, sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?
He becomes poor who works with a lazy hand, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth.
The slothful man doesn’t roast his game, but the possessions of diligent men are prized.
Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: whoever guards his soul stays from them.
He who observes the wind won’t sow; and he who regards the clouds won’t reap.
“But his lord answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant. You knew that I reap where I didn’t sow, and gather where I didn’t scatter.
and he from within will answer and say, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give it to you’?
He saw a resting place, that it was good, the land, that it was pleasant. He bows his shoulder to the burden, and becomes a servant doing forced labor.
On the way at a lodging place, Yahweh met Moses and wanted to kill him.
But the men who went up with him said, “We aren’t able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.”
Deborah said to Barak, “Go; for this is the day in which Yahweh has delivered Sisera into your hand. Hasn’t Yahweh gone out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
The man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor; and Solomon saw the young man that he was industrious, and he put him in charge of all the labor of the house of Joseph.
Judah said, “The strength of the bearers of burdens is fading, and there is much rubble; so that we are not able to build the wall.”
Don’t withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.
The hands of the diligent ones shall rule, but laziness ends in slave labor.
In all hard work there is profit, but the talk of the lips leads only to poverty.
A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who causes shame, and shall have a part in the inheritance among the brothers.
One who is slack in his work is brother to him who is a master of destruction.
Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger.
Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won’t serve obscure men.
The ants are not a strong people, yet they provide their food in the summer.
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor plan, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, where you are going.
The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master’s crib; but Israel doesn’t know. My people don’t consider.”
See the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they?
Another of his disciples said to him, “Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father.”
“Strive to enter in by the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will seek to enter in and will not be able.
not lagging in diligence; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: “If anyone is not willing to work, don’t let him eat.”
It will yield thorns and thistles to you; and you will eat the herb of the field.
Come now therefore, and let’s kill him, and cast him into one of the pits, and we will say, ‘An evil animal has devoured him.’ We will see what will become of his dreams.”
He recognized it, and said, “It is my son’s tunic. An evil animal has devoured him. Joseph is without doubt torn in pieces.”
They returned to Joshua, and said to him, “Don’t let all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and strike Ai. Don’t make all the people to toil there, for there are only a few of them.”
Joshua said to the children of Israel, “How long will you neglect to go in to possess the land, which Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has given you?
She sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh Naphtali, and said to him, “Hasn’t Yahweh, the God of Israel, commanded, ‘Go and lead the way to Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?
Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali together to Kedesh. Ten thousand men followed him; and Deborah went up with him.
The princes of Issachar were with Deborah. As was Issachar, so was Barak. They rushed into the valley at his feet. By the watercourses of Reuben, there were great resolves of heart.
Why did you sit among the sheepfolds? To hear the whistling for the flocks? At the watercourses of Reuben, there were great searchings of heart.
He made houses of high places, and made priests from among all the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.
When he had gone, a lion met him by the way and killed him. His body was thrown on the path, and the donkey stood by it. The lion also stood by the body.
He looked behind him and saw them, and cursed them in Yahweh’s name. Then two female bears came out of the woods, and mauled forty-two of those youths.
So it was, at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they didn’t fear Yahweh. Therefore Yahweh sent lions among them, which killed some of them.
“But ask the animals, now, and they will teach you; the birds of the sky, and they will tell you.
Lead me, Yahweh, in your righteousness because of my enemies. Make your way straight before my face.
What man is he who fears Yahweh? He shall instruct him in the way that he shall choose.
Teach me your way, Yahweh. Lead me in a straight path, because of my enemies.
Don’t say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again; tomorrow I will give it to you,” when you have it by you.
Go to the ant, you sluggard. Consider her ways, and be wise;
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during the harvest is a son who causes shame.
Behold, the righteous shall be repaid in the earth, how much more the wicked and the sinner!
The way of the sluggard is like a thorn patch, but the path of the upright is a highway.
The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor.
Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path!
Behold, it was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.
As the door turns on its hinges, so does the sluggard on his bed.
The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe.
By slothfulness the roof sinks in; and through idleness of the hands the house leaks.
I have taken off my robe. Indeed, must I put it on? I have washed my feet. Indeed, must I soil them?
and when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way. Walk in it.”
A highway will be there, a road, and it will be called “The Holy Way”. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it will be for those who walk in the Way. Wicked fools shall not go there.
He will say, “Build up, build up, prepare the way! Remove the stumbling-block out of the way of my people.”
For, behold, they have gone away from destruction. Egypt will gather them up. Memphis will bury them. Nettles will possess their pleasant things of silver. Thorns will be in their tents.
As if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; Or he went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a snake bit him.
“This is what Yahweh of Armies says: These people say, ‘The time hasn’t yet come, the time for Yahweh’s house to be built.’ ”
Now while the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept.
I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, you have what is yours.’
He said, “God’s Kingdom is as if a man should cast seed on the earth,
He said to another, “Follow me!” But he said, “Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father.”
“The manager said within himself, ‘What will I do, seeing that my lord is taking away the management position from me? I don’t have strength to dig. I am ashamed to beg.
But we, going ahead to the ship, set sail for Assos, intending to take Paul aboard there; for he had so arranged, intending himself to go by land.
As he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, “Go your way for this time, and when it is convenient for me, I will summon you.”
For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy. For I married you to one husband, that I might present you as a pure virgin to Christ.
