Hebrew Text— Psalms 102:8My enemies reproach me all day. Those who are mad at me use my name as a curse.

For the zeal of your house consumes me. The reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.
For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
“I have heard many such things. You are all miserable comforters!
For they intended evil against you. They plotted evil against you which cannot succeed.
The nations raged. The kingdoms were moved. He lifted his voice and the earth melted.
I looked, and there was no one to help; and I wondered that there was no one to uphold. Therefore my own arm brought salvation to me. My own wrath upheld me.
Whoever doesn’t fall down and worship shall be cast into the middle of a burning fiery furnace the same hour.”
It shall come to pass that, as you were a curse among the nations, house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you, and you shall be a blessing. Don’t be afraid. Let your hands be strong.”
I can of myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is righteous; because I don’t seek my own will, but the will of my Father who sent me.
But they, when they heard this, were cut to the heart, and were determined to kill them.
but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men.
Look on my right, and see; for there is no one who is concerned for me. Refuge has fled from me. No one cares for my soul.
The nations will see your righteousness, and all kings your glory. You will be called by a new name, which Yahweh’s mouth will name.
But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to councils, and in their synagogues they will scourge you.
For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.
But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed.
I said, ‘Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue those who believed in you.
Punishing them often in all the synagogues, I tried to make them blaspheme. Being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith,
Have this in your mind, which was also in Christ Jesus,
And being found in human form, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, yes, the death of the cross.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. To him who overcomes, to him I will give of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, which no one knows but he who receives it.
These will war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings, and those who are with him are called chosen and faithful.”
then the priest shall cause the woman to swear with the oath of cursing, and the priest shall tell the woman, “May Yahweh make you a curse and an oath among your people, when Yahweh allows your thigh to fall away, and your body to swell;
When he has made her drink the water, then it shall happen, if she is defiled and has committed a trespass against her husband, that the water that causes the curse will enter into her and become bitter, and her body will swell, and her thigh will fall away; and the woman will be a curse among her people.
He has torn me in his wrath and persecuted me. He has gnashed on me with his teeth. My adversary sharpens his eyes on me.
Like the profane mockers in feasts, they gnashed their teeth at me.
I will ask God, my rock, “Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”
I will give thanks to you, Lord, among the peoples. I will sing praises to you among the nations.
But you have rejected and spurned. You have been angry with your anointed.
I have also become a reproach to them. When they see me, they shake their head.
Therefore I will profane the princes of the sanctuary; and I will make Jacob a curse, and Israel an insult.”
I will bring offspring out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains. My chosen will inherit it, and my servants will dwell there.
“They will go out, and look at the dead bodies of the men who have transgressed against me; for their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind.”
For who will have pity on you, Jerusalem? Who will mourn you? Who will come to ask of your welfare?
I will even give them up to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth for evil; to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I will drive them.
then I will make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.” ’ ”
I will pursue after them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth, to be an object of horror, an astonishment, a hissing, and a reproach among all the nations where I have driven them,
For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘As my anger and my wrath has been poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so my wrath will be poured out on you, when you enter into Egypt; and you will be an object of horror, an astonishment, a curse, and a reproach; and you will see this place no more.’
in that you provoke me to anger with the works of your hands, burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you have gone to live; that you may be cut off, and that you may be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?
I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to live there, and they will all be consumed. They will fall in the land of Egypt. They will be consumed by the sword and by the famine. They will die, from the least even to the greatest, by the sword and by the famine. They will be an object of horror, an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.
I will set my face against that man, and will make him an astonishment, for a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from among my people. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.
Then these men were bound in their pants, their tunics, and their mantles, and their other clothes, and were cast into the middle of the burning fiery furnace.
He will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.”
But the Pharisees went out, and conspired against him, how they might destroy him.
Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to stumble because of me tonight, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
He went forward a little, fell on his face, and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from me; nevertheless, not what I desire, but what you desire.”
Again, a second time he went away, and prayed, saying, “My Father, if this cup can’t pass away from me unless I drink it, your desire be done.”
and wherever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth, and wastes away. I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they weren’t able.”
They all left him, and fled.
By chance a certain priest was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
But they insisted, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.”
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.
Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
When he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they were gathered together with the assembly, and taught many people. The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
“It will be that in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ there they will be called ‘children of the living God.’ ”
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich.
However God’s firm foundation stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.”
If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed; because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.
“I know your works, oppression, and your poverty (but you are rich), and the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews, and they are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.
Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot a vain thing?
Then I beat them small as the dust before the wind. I cast them out as the mire of the streets.
They also who seek after my life lay snares. Those who seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and meditate deceits all day long.
My enemies speak evil against me: “When will he die, and his name perish?”
As with a sword in my bones, my adversaries reproach me, while they continually ask me, “Where is your God?”
because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked. For they bring suffering on me. In anger they hold a grudge against me.
Reproach has broken my heart, and I am full of heaviness. I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; for comforters, but I found none.
saying, “God has forsaken him. Pursue and take him, for no one will rescue him.”
They scoff and speak with malice. In arrogance, they threaten oppression.
With which your enemies have mocked, Yahweh, with which they have mocked the footsteps of your anointed one.
The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.
I will destine you to the sword, and you will all bow down to the slaughter; because when I called, you didn’t answer. When I spoke, you didn’t listen; but you did that which was evil in my eyes, and chose that in which I didn’t delight.”
You will leave your name for a curse to my chosen; and the Lord Yahweh will kill you. He will call his servants by another name,
They will not build and another inhabit. They will not plant and another eat: for the days of my people will be like the days of a tree, and my chosen will long enjoy the work of their hands.
For, behold, Yahweh will come with fire, and his chariots will be like the whirlwind; to render his anger with fierceness, and his rebuke with flames of fire.
A curse will be taken up about them by all the captives of Judah who are in Babylon, saying, ‘Yahweh make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;’
But all this has happened that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.
Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads,
He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn’t you watch one hour?
But they were filled with rage, and talked with one another about what they might do to Jesus.
For he will be delivered up to the Gentiles, will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit on.
“Now my soul is troubled. What shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this time?’ But I came to this time for this cause.
Behold, the time is coming, yes, and has now come, that you will be scattered, everyone to his own place, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.
For even Christ didn’t please himself. But, as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.”
forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always. But wrath has come on them to the uttermost.
Others were tried by mocking and scourging, yes, moreover by bonds and imprisonment.
