Why do you hide your face, and consider me your enemy?
Break their teeth, God, in their mouth. Break out the great teeth of the young lions, Yahweh.
A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.
Won’t God avenge his chosen ones who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them?
“To the angel of the assembly in Philadelphia write: “He who is holy, he who is true, he who has the key of David, he who opens and no one can shut, and who shuts and no one opens, says these things:
Yes, they opened their mouth wide against me. They said, “Aha! Aha! Our eye has seen it!”
His mouth was smooth as butter, but his heart was war. His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.
Behold, they spew with their mouth. Swords are in their lips, “For”, they say, “who hears us?”
How long, Yahweh? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire?
Relent, Yahweh! How long? Have compassion on your servants!
A man who gives false testimony against his neighbor is like a club, a sword, or a sharp arrow.
If it happens, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.
You who have purer eyes than to see evil, and who cannot look on perversity, why do you tolerate those who deal treacherously, and keep silent when the wicked swallows up the man who is more righteous than he,
Then Yahweh’s angel replied, “O Yahweh of Armies, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which you have had indignation these seventy years?”
but nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
Because you kept my command to endure, I also will keep you from the hour of testing which is to come on the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.
Rejoice, you nations, with his people, for he will avenge the blood of his servants. He will take vengeance on his adversaries, and will make atonement for his land and for his people.
They have gaped on me with their mouth. They have struck me on the cheek reproachfully. They gather themselves together against me.
He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey, as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.
Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog.
Don’t draw me away with the wicked, with the workers of iniquity who speak peace with their neighbors, but mischief is in their hearts.
who sharpen their tongue like a sword, and aim their arrows, deadly words,
You are the God who does wonders. You have made your strength known among the peoples.
Yahweh, why do you reject my soul? Why do you hide your face from me?
Then I called on Yahweh’s name: “Yahweh, I beg you, deliver my soul.”
They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Viper’s poison is under their lips.
Yahweh preserves the foreigners. He upholds the fatherless and widow, but he turns the way of the wicked upside down.
There is one who speaks rashly like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise heals.
There is a generation whose teeth are like swords, and their jaws like knives, to devour the poor from the earth, and the needy from among men.
All your enemies have opened their mouth wide against you. They hiss and gnash their teeth. They say, “We have swallowed her up. Certainly this is the day that we looked for. We have found it. We have seen it.”
to subvert a man in his cause, the Lord doesn’t approve.
“All our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.
When he came near to the den to Daniel, he cried with a troubled voice. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver you from the lions?”
Then I heard a holy one speaking; and another holy one said to that certain one who spoke, “How long will the vision about the continual burnt offering, and the disobedience that makes desolate, to give both the sanctuary and the army to be trodden under foot be?”
For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.”
Beware of the dogs; beware of the evil workers; beware of the false circumcision.
Since it is a righteous thing with God to repay affliction to those who afflict you,
The nations were angry, and your wrath came, as did the time for the dead to be judged, and to give your bondservants the prophets, their reward, as well as to the saints, and those who fear your name, to the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”
He executes justice for the fatherless and widow and loves the foreigner in giving him food and clothing.
The Rock: his work is perfect, for all his ways are just. A God of faithfulness who does no wrong, just and right is he.
For he knows false men. He sees iniquity also, even though he doesn’t consider it.
“Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, and grow mighty in power?
He works to the north, but I can’t see him. He turns south, but I can’t catch a glimpse of him.
The arrogant will not stand in your sight. You hate all workers of iniquity.
Arise, Yahweh! God, lift up your hand! Don’t forget the helpless.
Break the arm of the wicked. As for the evil man, seek out his wickedness until you find none.
You have seen it, Yahweh. Don’t keep silent. Lord, don’t be far from me.
Why do you hide your face, and forget our affliction and our oppression?
You have done these things, and I kept silent. You thought that I was just like you. I will rebuke you, and accuse you in front of your eyes.
Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
Cast your burden on Yahweh and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.
Fire devoured their young men. Their virgins had no wedding song.
Yahweh, how long will the wicked, how long will the wicked triumph?
You who love Yahweh, hate evil! He preserves the souls of his saints. He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.
Their tongue is a deadly arrow. It speaks deceit. One speaks peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart, he waits to ambush him.
Then they said, “Come! Let’s devise plans against Jeremiah; for the law won’t perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let’s strike him with the tongue, and let’s not give heed to any of his words.”
He has cut off all the horn of Israel in fierce anger. He has drawn back his right hand from before the enemy. He has burned up Jacob like a flaming fire, which devours all around.
Why do you forget us forever, and forsake us for so long a time?
Assyria can’t save us. We won’t ride on horses; neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, ‘Our gods!’ for in you the fatherless finds mercy.”
and let none of you devise evil in your hearts against his neighbor, and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate,” says Yahweh.
“Awake, sword, against my shepherd, and against the man who is close to me,” says Yahweh of Armies. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; and I will turn my hand against the little ones.
But they insisted, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.”
“Now my soul is troubled. What shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this time?’ But I came to this time for this cause.
“Their throat is an open tomb. With their tongues they have used deceit.” “The poison of vipers is under their lips.”
For this cause I also suffer these things. Yet I am not ashamed, for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed to him against that day.
But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, that through me the message might be fully proclaimed, and that all the Gentiles might hear. So I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
When he was cursed, he didn’t curse back. When he suffered, he didn’t threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously.
Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.
casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.
“Rejoice over her, O heaven, you saints, apostles, and prophets; for God has judged your judgment on her.”
In her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been slain on the earth.”
then hear from heaven, act, and judge your servants, bringing retribution to the wicked, to bring his way on his own head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.
My soul is also in great anguish. But you, Yahweh—how long?
But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless.
How long, Yahweh? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
They open their mouths wide against me, lions tearing prey and roaring.
My soul is among lions. I lie among those who are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.
“Will the Lord reject us forever? Will he be favorable no more?
How long, Yahweh? Will you hide yourself forever? Will your wrath burn like fire?
Yahweh’s eyes are everywhere, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
For my eyes are on all their ways. They are not hidden from my face. Their iniquity isn’t concealed from my eyes.
Can anyone hide himself in secret places so that I can’t see him?” says Yahweh. “Don’t I fill heaven and earth?” says Yahweh.
Leave your fatherless children. I will preserve them alive. Let your widows trust in me.”
He delivers and rescues. He works signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”
They cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, Master, the holy and true, until you judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”
