Hebrew Text— 1 Samuel 2:5Those who were full have hired themselves out for bread. Those who were hungry are satisfied. Yes, the barren has borne seven. She who has many children languishes.

“I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you.
For Yahweh God is a sun and a shield. Yahweh will give grace and glory. He withholds no good thing from those who walk blamelessly.
For he satisfies the longing soul. He fills the hungry soul with good.
Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron,
It will happen in that day,” says the Lord Yahweh, “that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day.
The righteous one eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry.
Therefore the Lord Yahweh says, “Behold, my servants will eat, but you will be hungry; behold, my servants will drink, but you will be thirsty. Behold, my servants will rejoice, but you will be disappointed;
For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?
“But woe to you who are rich! For you have received your consolation.
What more shall I say? For the time would fail me if I told of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets,
Sarah said, “God has made me laugh. Everyone who hears will laugh with me.”
Yahweh saw that Leah was hated, and he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.
He lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, “Who are these with you?” He said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”
Joseph was the governor over the land. It was he who sold to all the people of the land. Joseph’s brothers came, and bowed themselves down to him with their faces to the earth.
“ ‘If you walk contrary to me, and won’t listen to me, then I will bring seven times more plagues on you according to your sins.
then I will walk contrary to you in wrath. I will also chastise you seven times for your sins.
You will father sons and daughters, but they will not be yours, for they will go into captivity.
and a fruitful land into a salt waste, for the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
He settles the barren woman in her home as a joyful mother of children. Praise Yah!
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin will conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
You will not be called Forsaken any more, nor will your land be called Desolate any more; but you will be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for Yahweh delights in you, and your land will be married.
She who has borne seven languishes. She has given up the spirit. Her sun has gone down while it was yet day. She has been disappointed and confounded. I will deliver their residue to the sword before their enemies,” says Yahweh.
Give us today our daily bread.
Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.

Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months is with you, and you have appointed his bounds that he can’t pass;
from men by your hand, Yahweh, from men of the world, whose portion is in this life. You fill the belly of your cherished ones. Your sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.
For Yahweh hears the needy, and doesn’t despise his captive people.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke away their chains.
who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. Yahweh frees the prisoners.
Even in laughter the heart may be sorrowful, and mirth may end in heaviness.
But these two things will come to you in a moment in one day, the loss of children and widowhood. They will come on you in their full measure, in the multitude of your sorceries, and the great abundance of your enchantments.
“Before she travailed, she gave birth. Before her pain came, she delivered a son.
She shall give birth to a son. You shall name him Jesus, for it is he who shall save his people from their sins.”
Don’t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him.
The man called his wife Eve because she would be the mother of all the living.
God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her, and opened her womb.
“ ‘If you in spite of these things will not listen to me, then I will chastise you seven times more for your sins.
He wanders abroad for bread, saying, ‘Where is it?’ He knows that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
His children will seek the favor of the poor. His hands will give back his wealth.
God sets the lonely in families. He brings out the prisoners with singing, but the rebellious dwell in a sun-scorched land.
There he makes the hungry live, that they may prepare a city to live in,
Seven times a day, I praise you, because of your righteous ordinances.
Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh. The fruit of the womb is his reward.
He will fulfill the desire of those who fear him. He also will hear their cry, and will save them.
for a righteous man falls seven times and rises up again; but the wicked are overthrown by calamity.
Sorrow is better than laughter; for by the sadness of the face the heart is made good.
Cry aloud and shout, you inhabitant of Zion; for the Holy One of Israel is great among you!”
The children of your bereavement will say in your ears, ‘This place is too small for me. Give me a place to live in.’
“Sing, barren, you who didn’t give birth; break out into singing, and cry aloud, you who didn’t travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife,” says Yahweh.
At the instant I speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
“ ‘ “I will make the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem void in this place. I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those who seek their life. I will give their dead bodies to be food for the birds of the sky and for the animals of the earth.
For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.”
How the city sits solitary, that was full of people! She has become as a widow, who was great among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces has become a slave!
Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the form of his appearance was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.
Sing, daughter of Zion! Shout, Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, daughter of Jerusalem.
Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion! Shout, daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King comes to you! He is righteous, and having salvation; lowly, and riding on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.
For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
They all ate, and were filled. They took up twelve baskets full of that which remained left over from the broken pieces.

But when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son, born to a woman, born under the law,
She was with child. She cried out in pain, laboring to give birth.
He himself passed over in front of them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife; and he went in to her, and Yahweh enabled her to conceive, and she bore a son.
Her rival provoked her severely, to irritate her, because Yahweh had shut up her womb.
When the time had come, Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked him of Yahweh.”
His strength will be famished. Calamity will be ready at his side.
If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword. His offspring will not be satisfied with bread.
The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger, but those who seek Yahweh shall not lack any good thing.
a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
He has filled the hungry with good things. He has sent the rich away empty.
Woe to you, you who are full now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.
“But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that you, in your lifetime, received your good things, and Lazarus, in the same way, bad things. But here he is now comforted, and you are in anguish.
For it is written, “Rejoice, you barren who don’t bear. Break out and shout, you who don’t travail. For the desolate have more children than her who has a husband.”
