Hebrew Text— Ezekiel 18:7and has not wronged any, but has restored to the debtor his pledge, has taken nothing by robbery, has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

You will also decree a thing, and it will be established to you. Light will shine on your ways.
Then your light will break out as the morning, and your healing will appear quickly; then your righteousness shall go before you, and Yahweh’s glory will be your rear guard.
hasn’t wronged any, hasn’t taken anything to pledge, hasn’t taken by robbery, but has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;
for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in.
As it is written, “He has scattered abroad. He has given to the poor. His righteousness remains forever.”
He who despises his neighbor sins, but he who has pity on the poor is blessed.
Isn’t it to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh?
Turn my eyes away from looking at worthless things. Revive me in your ways.
Don’t be envious of evil men, neither desire to be with them;
I gave them my statutes, and showed them my ordinances, which if a man does, he will live in them.
Don’t rejoice against me, my enemy. When I fall, I will arise. When I sit in darkness, Yahweh will be a light to me.
“The King will answer them, ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
“You shall not take advantage of any widow or fatherless child.
If you take your neighbor’s garment as collateral, you shall restore it to him before the sun goes down,
You shall not pervert justice. You shall not show partiality. You shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.
Life will be clearer than the noonday. Though there is darkness, it will be as the morning.
Don’t fret because of evildoers, neither be envious against those who work unrighteousness.
I will cut off all the horns of the wicked, but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.
Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.
Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker. He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.
He who has pity on the poor lends to Yahweh; he will reward him.
Don’t exploit the poor, because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court;
The righteous care about justice for the poor. The wicked aren’t concerned about knowledge.
to deprive the needy from justice, and to rob the poor among my people of their rights, that widows may be their plunder, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!
“For my people are foolish. They don’t know me. They are foolish children, and they have no understanding. They are skillful in doing evil, but they don’t know how to do good.”
House of David, Yahweh says, ‘Execute justice in the morning, and deliver him who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my wrath go out like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
He said to me, “Son of man, do you see what they do? Even the great abominations that the house of Israel commit here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? But you will again see yet other great abominations.”
Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? For they have filled the land with violence, and have turned again to provoke me to anger. Behold, they put the branch to their nose.
has wronged the poor and needy, has taken by robbery, has not restored the pledge, and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination,
Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor. If I have wrongfully exacted anything of anyone, I restore four times as much.”
envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s Kingdom.
Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.
“You shall not deny justice to your poor people in their lawsuits.
Yahweh passed by before him, and proclaimed, “Yahweh! Yahweh, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth,
“ ‘You shall not oppress your neighbor, nor rob him. “ ‘The wages of a hired servant shall not remain with you all night until the morning.
You shall not wrong one another, but you shall fear your God; for I am Yahweh your God.
No man shall take the mill or the upper millstone as a pledge, for he takes a life in pledge.
‘Cursed is he who withholds justice from the foreigner, fatherless, and widow.’ All the people shall say, ‘Amen.’
Her mother-in-law said to her, “Where have you gleaned today? Where have you worked? Blessed be he who noticed you.” She told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, “The man’s name with whom I worked today is Boaz.”
Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor any who come into Dagon’s house step on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.
“Because Manasseh king of Judah has done these abominations, and has done wickedly above all that the Amorites did, who were before him, and has also made Judah to sin with his idols;
Didn’t he who made me in the womb make him? Didn’t one fashion us in the womb?
“Because of the oppression of the weak and because of the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says Yahweh; “I will set him in safety from those who malign him.”
They shall not be disappointed in the time of evil. In the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
They don’t know, neither do they understand. They walk back and forth in darkness. All the foundations of the earth are shaken.
The wicked desires the plunder of evil men, but the root of the righteous flourishes.
Take the garment of one who puts up collateral for a stranger; and hold him in pledge for a wayward woman.
The rich and the poor have this in common: Yahweh is the maker of them all.
Don’t let your heart envy sinners, but rather fear Yahweh all day long.
If you see the oppression of the poor, and the violent taking away of justice and righteousness in a district, don’t marvel at the matter, for one official is eyed by a higher one, and there are officials over them.
Give a portion to seven, yes, even to eight; for you don’t know what evil will be on the earth.
But your eyes and your heart are only for your covetousness, for shedding innocent blood, for oppression, and for doing violence.”
if the wicked restore the pledge, give again that which he had taken by robbery, walk in the statutes of life, committing no iniquity; he will surely live. He will not die.
“ ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Let it suffice you, princes of Israel: remove violence and plunder, and execute justice and righteousness; dispossessing my people,” says the Lord Yahweh.
They haven’t cried to me with their heart, but they howl on their beds. They assemble themselves for grain and new wine. They turn away from me.
Listen to this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who tell their husbands, “Bring us drinks!”
who drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the best oils; but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.
Are there yet treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and a short ephah that is accursed?
In all things I gave you an example, that so laboring you ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
For God is not unrighteous, so as to forget your work and the labor of love which you showed toward his name, in that you served the saints, and still do serve them.
“You shall not follow a crowd to do evil. You shall not testify in court to side with a multitude to pervert justice.
You haven’t given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry.
For I was envious of the arrogant, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
But you have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox. I am anointed with fresh oil.
Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.
As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, robbed his brother, and did that which is not good among his people, behold, he will die in his iniquity.
Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps there may be a lengthening of your tranquility.”
and they lay themselves down beside every altar on clothes taken in pledge; and in the house of their God they drink the wine of those who have been fined.
“Indeed they don’t know to do right,” says Yahweh, “Who hoard plunder and loot in their palaces.”
He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
He answered them, “He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise.”
But don’t forget to be doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
“You shall not oppress an alien, for you know the heart of an alien, since you were aliens in the land of Egypt.
then it shall be, if he has sinned, and is guilty, he shall restore that which he took by robbery, or the thing which he has gotten by oppression, or the deposit which was committed to him, or the lost thing which he found,
“ ‘You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor show favoritism to the great; but you shall judge your neighbor in righteousness.
“ ‘If you sell anything to your neighbor, or buy from your neighbor, you shall not wrong one another.
You shall surely restore to him the pledge when the sun goes down, that he may sleep in his garment and bless you. It shall be righteousness to you before Yahweh your God.
You shall not deprive the foreigner or the fatherless of justice, nor take a widow’s clothing in pledge;
For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
They drive away the donkey of the fatherless, and they take the widow’s ox for a pledge.
or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it
Blessed is he who considers the poor. Yahweh will deliver him in the day of evil.
Light dawns in the darkness for the upright, gracious, merciful, and righteous.
He has dispersed, he has given to the poor. His righteousness endures forever. His horn will be exalted with honor.
Don’t envy the man of violence. Choose none of his ways.
He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him.
One who gives to the poor has no lack; but one who closes his eyes will have many curses.
Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Defend the fatherless. Plead for the widow.”
For the vineyard of Yahweh of Armies is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for justice, but, behold, oppression; for righteousness, but, behold, a cry of distress.
He who walks righteously and speaks blamelessly, he who despises the gain of oppressions, who gestures with his hands, refusing to take a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of blood, and shuts his eyes from looking at evil—
Yahweh says: “Execute justice and righteousness, and deliver him who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor. Do no wrong. Do no violence to the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow. Don’t shed innocent blood in this place.
“ ‘Make chains; for the land is full of bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence.
“ ‘ “Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: pride, fullness of bread, and prosperous ease was in her and in her daughters. She also didn’t strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
Those who put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;
Woe to those who devise iniquity and work evil on their beds! When the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand.
You who hate the good, and love the evil; who tear off their skin, and their flesh from off their bones;
In that day, I will punish all those who leap over the threshold, who fill their master’s house with violence and deceit.
I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and don’t fear me,” says Yahweh of Armies.
I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came to me.’
And if a brother or sister is naked and in lack of daily food,
