Hebrew Text— Job 10:18“ ‘Why, then, have you brought me out of the womb? I wish I had given up the spirit, and no eye had seen me.

Cursed is the day in which I was born. Don’t let the day in which my mother bore me be blessed.
He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,
Among these nations you will find no ease, and there will be no rest for the sole of your foot; but Yahweh will give you there a trembling heart, failing of eyes, and pining of soul.
So are the paths of all who forget God. The hope of the godless man will perish,
The days of our years are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty years; yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for it passes quickly, and we fly away.
“If you lend money to any of my people with you who is poor, you shall not be to him as a creditor. You shall not charge him interest.
For when a few years have come, I will go the way of no return.
The shepherds will have no way to flee. The leader of the flock will have no escape.
“Woe to the world because of occasions of stumbling! For it must be that the occasions come, but woe to that person through whom the occasion comes!
How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that it must be so?”
But all this has happened that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.
He said to them, “Elijah indeed comes first, and restores all things. How is it written about the Son of Man, that he should suffer many things and be despised?
For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
“Let the day perish in which I was born, the night which said, ‘There is a boy conceived.’
so man lies down and doesn’t rise. Until the heavens are no more, they will not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.
He who denounces his friends for plunder, Even the eyes of his children will fail.
yet he will perish forever like his own dung. Those who have seen him will say, ‘Where is he?’
“If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,
he who doesn’t lend out his money for usury, nor take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be shaken.
Look on my right, and see; for there is no one who is concerned for me. Refuge has fled from me. No one cares for my soul.
The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hope of the wicked will perish.
I will make you to this people a fortified bronze wall. They will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you; for I am with you to save you and to deliver you,” says Yahweh.
After the sixty-two weeks the Anointed One will be cut off, and will have nothing. The people of the prince who come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. Its end will be with a flood, and war will be even to the end. Desolations are determined.
He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but on whomever it will fall, it will scatter him as dust.”
For the Son of Man goes, even as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for that man if he had not been born.”
He said to him, “Most certainly, I tell you all, hereafter you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
While I was with them in the world, I kept them in your name. I have kept those whom you have given me. None of them is lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.”
When Jacob finished charging his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, breathed his last breath, and was gathered to his people.
He took off their chariot wheels, and they drove them heavily; so that the Egyptians said, “Let’s flee from the face of Israel, for Yahweh fights for them against the Egyptians!”
Take no interest from him or profit; but fear your God, that your brother may live among you.
I also will do this to you: I will appoint terror over you, even consumption and fever, that shall consume the eyes, and make the soul to pine away. You will sow your seed in vain, for your enemies will eat it.
Moses said to Yahweh, “Why have you treated your servant so badly? Why haven’t I found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people on me?
Your sons and your daughters will be given to another people. Your eyes will look, and fail with longing for them all day long. There will be no power in your hand.
Yahweh, bless his skills. Accept the work of his hands. Strike through the hips of those who rise up against him, of those who hate him, that they not rise again.”
When the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way. The people who fled to the wilderness turned back on the pursuers.
Moreover Yahweh will deliver Israel also with you into the hand of the Philistines; and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. Yahweh will deliver the army of Israel also into the hand of the Philistines.”
Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, my enemy?” He answered, “I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do that which is evil in Yahweh’s sight.
The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Yahweh, Micaiah the son of Imlah; but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” Jehoshaphat said, “Don’t let the king say so.”
“Why didn’t I die from the womb? Why didn’t I give up the spirit when my mother bore me?
But the eyes of the wicked will fail. They will have no way to flee. Their hope will be the giving up of the spirit.”
But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he?
He will be rooted out of the security of his tent. He will be brought to the king of terrors.
For what is the hope of the godless, when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?
For it hurls at him, and does not spare, as he flees away from his hand.
Let death come suddenly on them. Let them go down alive into Sheol. For wickedness is among them, in their dwelling.
But you, God, will bring them down into the pit of destruction. Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days, but I will trust in you.
I am weary with my crying. My throat is dry. My eyes fail looking for my God.
You make us a source of contention to our neighbors. Our enemies laugh among themselves.
He clothed himself also with cursing as with his garment. It came into his inward parts like water, like oil into his bones.
They may curse, but you bless. When they arise, they will be shamed, but your servant shall rejoice.
Woe is me, that I live in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar!
What the wicked fear, will overtake them, but the desire of the righteous will be granted.
When a wicked man dies, hope perishes, and expectation of power comes to nothing.
The wicked are overthrown, and are no more, but the house of the righteous shall stand.
Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness.
Like a fluttering sparrow, like a darting swallow, so the undeserved curse doesn’t come to rest.
If a man fathers a hundred children, and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not filled with good, and moreover he has no burial; I say, that a stillborn child is better than he:
Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers who write oppressive decrees;
Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me, a man of strife, and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have not lent, neither have men lent to me; yet every one of them curses me.
Yahweh, you know. Remember me, visit me, and avenge me of my persecutors. You are patient, so don’t take me away. Know that for your sake I have suffered reproach.
Yahweh, you have persuaded me, and I was persuaded. You are stronger than I, and have prevailed. I have become a laughingstock all day. Everyone mocks me.
Yahweh, you have seen my wrong. Judge my cause.
Our eyes still fail, looking in vain for our help. In our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save.
he who hasn’t lent to them with interest, hasn’t taken any increase from them, who has withdrawn his hand from iniquity, has executed true justice between man and man,
Flight will perish from the swift; and the strong won’t strengthen his force; neither shall the mighty deliver himself;
Misery is mine! Indeed, I am like one who gathers the summer fruits, as gleanings of the vineyard: There is no cluster of grapes to eat. My soul desires to eat the early fig.
I will pour on David’s house, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they will look to me whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for his only son, and will grieve bitterly for him, as one grieves for his firstborn.
“Awake, sword, against my shepherd, and against the man who is close to me,” says Yahweh of Armies. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; and I will turn my hand against the little ones.
But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
Then they will deliver you up to oppression, and will kill you. You will be hated by all of the nations for my name’s sake.
The Son of Man goes, even as it is written of him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for that man if he had not been born.”
Jesus cried again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit.
As it is written in the prophets, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you:
and Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, “Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.
Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude and mock you, and throw out your name as evil, for the Son of Man’s sake.
The Son of Man indeed goes, as it has been determined, but woe to that man through whom he is betrayed!”
Then they said to one another, “Let’s not tear it, but cast lots for it to decide whose it will be,” that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which says, “They parted my garments among them. For my cloak they cast lots.” Therefore the soldiers did these things.
After this, Jesus, seeing that all things were now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I am thirsty.”
him, being delivered up by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by the hand of lawless men, crucified and killed;
to do whatever your hand and your council foreordained to happen.
But we desire to hear from you what you think. For, as concerning this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against.”
When they had appointed him a day, many people came to him at his lodging. He explained to them, testifying about God’s Kingdom, and persuading them concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses and from the prophets, from morning until evening.
It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.
how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation—which at the first having been spoken through the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard,
