lying in wait for him, and seeking to catch him in something he might say, that they might accuse him.
But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered themselves together.
even those who were counted of them, were eight thousand five hundred eighty.
He hired so that I would be afraid, do so, and sin, and that they might have material for an evil report, that they might reproach me.
“They are amazed. They answer no more. They don’t have a word to say.
The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take counsel together, against Yahweh, and against his Anointed, saying,
If he comes to see me, he speaks falsehood. His heart gathers iniquity to itself. When he goes abroad, he tells it.
All who hate me whisper together against me. They imagine the worst for me.
All day long they twist my words. All their thoughts are against me for evil.
They have prepared a net for my steps. My soul is bowed down. They dig a pit before me. They fall into the middle of it themselves.
For, behold, they lie in wait for my soul. The mighty gather themselves together against me, not for my disobedience, nor for my sin, Yahweh.
They fully intend to throw him down from his lofty place. They delight in lies. They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly.
When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, you knew my route. On the path in which I walk, they have hidden a snare for me.
who cause a person to be indicted by a word, and lay a snare for the arbiter in the gate, and who deprive the innocent of justice with false testimony.
Then they said, “Come! Let’s devise plans against Jeremiah; for the law won’t perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let’s strike him with the tongue, and let’s not give heed to any of his words.”
Let a cry be heard from their houses when you bring a troop suddenly on them; for they have dug a pit to take me and hidden snares for my feet.
For I have heard the defaming of many, “Terror on every side! Denounce, and we will denounce him!” say all my familiar friends, those who watch for my fall. “Perhaps he will be persuaded, and we will prevail against him, and we will take our revenge on him.”
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing him, asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk.
The Pharisees came out and began to question him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, and testing him.
They weren’t able to trap him in his words before the people. They marveled at his answer and were silent.
For consider him who has endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, that you don’t grow weary, fainting in your souls.
Elijah came near to all the people, and said, “How long will you waver between the two sides? If Yahweh is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” The people didn’t say a word.
But the Pharisees went out, and conspired against him, how they might destroy him.
