My eye wastes away because of grief. It grows old because of all my adversaries.
My soul is laid low in the dust. Revive me according to your word!
When they tell you, “Consult with those who have familiar spirits and with the wizards, who chirp and who mutter,” shouldn’t a people consult with their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?
When they brought those kings out to Joshua, Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the chiefs of the men of war who went with him, “Come near. Put your feet on the necks of these kings.” They came near, and put their feet on their necks.
Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, the saving help of my countenance, and my God.
You allowed men to ride over our heads. We went through fire and through water, but you brought us to the place of abundance.
Behold, I long for your precepts! Revive me in your righteousness.
I will never forget your precepts, for with them, you have revived me.
Hear my voice according to your loving kindness. Revive me, Yahweh, according to your ordinances.
Consider how I love your precepts. Revive me, Yahweh, according to your loving kindness.
Revive me, Yahweh, for your name’s sake. In your righteousness, bring my soul out of trouble.
“Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of reeling to all the surrounding peoples, and it will also be on Judah in the siege against Jerusalem.
Yahweh God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. You shall go on your belly and you shall eat dust all the days of your life.
You daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you delicately in scarlet, who put ornaments of gold on your clothing.
When I remember, I am troubled. Horror takes hold of my flesh.
Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him: my Savior, my helper, and my God.
You, who have shown us many and bitter troubles, you will let me live. You will bring us up again from the depths of the earth.
My eyes are dim from grief. I have called on you daily, Yahweh. I have spread out my hands to you.
Turn my eyes away from looking at worthless things. Revive me in your ways.
Preserve my life according to your loving kindness, so I will obey the statutes of your mouth.
I am afflicted very much. Revive me, Yahweh, according to your word.
Great are your tender mercies, Yahweh. Revive me according to your ordinances.
The plowers plowed on my back. They made their furrows long.
“Come down and sit in the dust, virgin daughter of Babylon. Sit on the ground without a throne, daughter of the Chaldeans. For you will no longer be called tender and delicate.
Its sound will go like the serpent; for they will march with an army, and come against her with axes, as wood cutters.
“If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you,
But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft clothing? Behold, those who are gorgeously dressed, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts.
He wanted to fill his belly with the husks that the pigs ate, but no one gave him any.
“Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury every day.
This was because of the false brothers secretly brought in, who stole in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage,
Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth.
But she who gives herself to pleasure is dead while she lives.
“ ‘Don’t turn to those who are mediums, nor to the wizards. Don’t seek them out, to be defiled by them. I am Yahweh your God.
Yahweh your God will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your offspring, to love Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.
But Rabshakeh said to them, “Has my master sent me to your master and to you, to speak these words? Hasn’t he sent me to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own urine with you?”
Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in the prison; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.
My eye also is dim by reason of sorrow. All my members are as a shadow.
His troops come on together, build a siege ramp against me, and encamp around my tent.
Why do you persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?
They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for lack of a shelter.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You have brought me into the dust of death.
All the rich ones of the earth shall eat and worship. All those who go down to the dust shall bow before him, even he who can’t keep his soul alive.
Have mercy on me, Yahweh, for I am in distress. My eye, my soul, and my body waste away with grief.
Don’t let the foot of pride come against me. Don’t let the hand of the wicked drive me away.
Be merciful to me, God, for man wants to swallow me up. All day long, he attacks and oppresses me.
which my lips promised, and my mouth spoke, when I was in distress.
For all day long I have been plagued, and punished every morning.
My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
So we will not turn away from you. Revive us, and we will call on your name.
My heart is blighted like grass, and withered, for I forget to eat my bread.
Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron,
Therefore he brought down their heart with labor. They fell down, and there was no one to help.
This is my comfort in my affliction, for your word has revived me.
Plead my cause, and redeem me! Revive me according to your promise.
Yahweh opens the eyes of the blind. Yahweh raises up those who are bowed down. Yahweh loves the righteous.
A righteous person is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked takes his place.
The wicked is a ransom for the righteous, the treacherous for the upright.
Then I returned and saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold, the tears of those who were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.
For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen; because their tongue and their doings are against Yahweh, to provoke the eyes of his glory.
that you will take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, “How the oppressor has ceased! The golden city has ceased!”
You will be brought down, and will speak out of the ground. Your speech will mumble out of the dust. Your voice will be as of one who has a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and your speech will whisper out of the dust.
Rise up, you women who are at ease! Hear my voice! You careless daughters, give ear to my speech!
Lord, men live by these things; and my spirit finds life in all of them: you restore me, and cause me to live.
But this is a robbed and plundered people. All of them are snared in holes, and they are hidden in prisons. They have become captives, and no one delivers, and a plunder, and no one says, ‘Restore them!’
I will put it into the hand of those who afflict you, who have said to your soul, ‘Bow down, that we may walk over you;’ and you have laid your back as the ground, like a street to those who walk over.”
Shake yourself from the dust! Arise, sit up, Jerusalem! Release yourself from the bonds of your neck, captive daughter of Zion!
“Now therefore, what do I do here,” says Yahweh, “seeing that my people are taken away for nothing? Those who rule over them mock,” says Yahweh, “and my name is blasphemed continually all day long.
The wolf and the lamb will feed together. The lion will eat straw like the ox. Dust will be the serpent’s food. They will not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain,” says Yahweh.
Yahweh of Armies says: “The children of Israel and the children of Judah are oppressed together. All who took them captive hold them fast. They refuse to let them go.
Her filthiness was in her skirts. She didn’t remember her latter end. Therefore she has come down astoundingly. She has no comforter. “See, Yahweh, my affliction; for the enemy has magnified himself.”
The elders of the daughter of Zion sit on the ground. They keep silence. They have cast up dust on their heads. They have clothed themselves with sackcloth. The virgins of Jerusalem hang down their heads to the ground.
My eyes fail with tears. My heart is troubled. My liver is poured on the earth, because of the destruction of the daughter of my people, because the young children and the infants swoon in the streets of the city.
My soul still remembers them, and is bowed down within me.
Those who ate delicacies are desolate in the streets. Those who were brought up in purple embrace dunghills.
Our eyes still fail, looking in vain for our help. In our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save.
For this our heart is faint. For these things our eyes are dim.
“ ‘ “When I passed by you, and saw you wallowing in your blood, I said to you, ‘Though you are in your blood, live!’ Yes, I said to you, ‘Though you are in your blood, live!’
Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the form of his appearance was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.
But he turned, and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me, for you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of men.”
For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin.
Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see. Always keep their backs bent.”
whose end is destruction, whose god is the belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who think about earthly things.
Leave out the court which is outside of the temple, and don’t measure it, for it has been given to the nations. They will tread the holy city under foot for forty-two months.
The woman whom you saw is the great city, which reigns over the kings of the earth.”
For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her sexual immorality, the kings of the earth committed sexual immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth grew rich from the abundance of her luxury.”
