He has walled up my way so that I can’t pass, and has set darkness in my paths.
On my right hand rise the rabble. They thrust aside my feet, They cast up against me their ways of destruction.
How could one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, and Yahweh had delivered them up?
When they brought those kings out to Joshua, Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the chiefs of the men of war who went with him, “Come near. Put your feet on the necks of these kings.” They came near, and put their feet on their necks.
For the arrows of the Almighty are within me. My spirit drinks up their poison. The terrors of God set themselves in array against me.
He draws it out, and it comes out of his body. Yes, the glittering point comes out of his liver. Terrors are on him.
You allowed men to ride over our heads. We went through fire and through water, but you brought us to the place of abundance.
He has walled me about, so that I can’t go out. He has made my chain heavy.
“Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of reeling to all the surrounding peoples, and it will also be on Judah in the siege against Jerusalem.
Don’t deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries, for false witnesses have risen up against me, such as breathe out cruelty.
You have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy. You have set my feet in a large place.
The plowers plowed on my back. They made their furrows long.
Why do you say, Jacob, and speak, Israel, “My way is hidden from Yahweh, and the justice due me is disregarded by my God?”
My eyes fail with tears. My heart is troubled. My liver is poured on the earth, because of the destruction of the daughter of my people, because the young children and the infants swoon in the streets of the city.
This was because of the false brothers secretly brought in, who stole in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage,
The archers have severely grieved him, shot at him, and persecuted him:
and they made their lives bitter with hard service in mortar and in brick, and in all kinds of service in the field, all their service, in which they ruthlessly made them serve.
I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that you should not be their slaves. I have broken the bars of your yoke, and made you walk upright.
Yahweh will not pardon him, but then Yahweh’s anger and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book will fall on him, and Yahweh will blot out his name from under the sky.
You have declared today how you have dealt well with me, because when Yahweh had delivered me up into your hand, you didn’t kill me.
Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in the prison; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.
So Satan went out from the presence of Yahweh, and struck Job with painful sores from the sole of his foot to his head.
Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, whom God has hedged in?
Let still be my consolation, yes, let me exult in pain that doesn’t spare, that I have not denied the words of the Holy One.
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of its judges. If not he, then who is it?
Behold, he breaks down, and it can’t be built again. He imprisons a man, and there can be no release.
God delivers me to the ungodly, and casts me into the hands of the wicked.
His archers surround me. He splits my kidneys apart, and does not spare. He pours out my bile on the ground.
know now that God has subverted me, and has surrounded me with his net.
Even young children despise me. If I arise, they speak against me.
Why do you persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?
whom I, even I, will see on my side. My eyes will see, and not as a stranger. “My heart is consumed within me.
In the fullness of his sufficiency, distress will overtake him. The hand of everyone who is in misery will come on him.
Notwithstanding my right I am considered a liar. My wound is incurable, though I am without disobedience.’
“Shall he who argues contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.”
Behold, he travails with iniquity. Yes, he has conceived mischief, and brought out falsehood.
Don’t let the foot of pride come against me. Don’t let the hand of the wicked drive me away.
For our soul is bowed down to the dust. Our body clings to the earth.
For my soul was grieved. I was embittered in my heart.
You have taken my friends from me. You have made me an abomination to them. I am confined, and I can’t escape.
Therefore he brought down their heart with labor. They fell down, and there was no one to help.
A righteous person is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked takes his place.
The wicked is a ransom for the righteous, the treacherous for the upright.
Then I returned and saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold, the tears of those who were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.
The people will be oppressed, everyone by another, and everyone by his neighbor. The child will behave himself proudly against the old man, and the wicked against the honorable.
that you will take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, “How the oppressor has ceased! The golden city has ceased!”
You will be brought down, and will speak out of the ground. Your speech will mumble out of the dust. Your voice will be as of one who has a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and your speech will whisper out of the dust.
But this is a robbed and plundered people. All of them are snared in holes, and they are hidden in prisons. They have become captives, and no one delivers, and a plunder, and no one says, ‘Restore them!’
I will put it into the hand of those who afflict you, who have said to your soul, ‘Bow down, that we may walk over you;’ and you have laid your back as the ground, like a street to those who walk over.”
“Now therefore, what do I do here,” says Yahweh, “seeing that my people are taken away for nothing? Those who rule over them mock,” says Yahweh, “and my name is blasphemed continually all day long.
Yahweh of Armies says: “The children of Israel and the children of Judah are oppressed together. All who took them captive hold them fast. They refuse to let them go.
He has walled up my ways with cut stone. He has made my paths crooked.
He has caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my kidneys.
Therefore as I live,’ says the Lord Yahweh, ‘surely, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable things, and with all your abominations, therefore I will also diminish you. My eye won’t spare, and I will have no pity.
“ ‘ “When I passed by you, and saw you wallowing in your blood, I said to you, ‘Though you are in your blood, live!’ Yes, I said to you, ‘Though you are in your blood, live!’
Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the form of his appearance was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.
Therefore behold, I will hedge up your way with thorns, and I will build a wall against her, that she can’t find her way.
So then he delivered him to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led him away.
He who didn’t spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things?
Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see. Always keep their backs bent.”
For God has bound all to disobedience, that he might have mercy on all.
By reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted excessively, a thorn in the flesh was given to me: a messenger of Satan to torment me, that I should not be exalted excessively.
and didn’t spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood on the world of the ungodly;
Leave out the court which is outside of the temple, and don’t measure it, for it has been given to the nations. They will tread the holy city under foot for forty-two months.
The woman whom you saw is the great city, which reigns over the kings of the earth.”
Shake yourself from the dust! Arise, sit up, Jerusalem! Release yourself from the bonds of your neck, captive daughter of Zion!
