Hebrew Text— 2 Chronicles 12:6Then the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, “Yahweh is righteous.”

A man’s pride brings him low, but one of lowly spirit gains honor.
Surely he mocks the mockers, but he gives grace to the humble.
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
For though Yahweh is high, yet he looks after the lowly; but he knows the proud from afar.
Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
But it shall not be so among you, but whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant.
He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts. For that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.
Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, “I have sinned this time. Yahweh is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste, and he said, “I have sinned against Yahweh your God, and against you.
Samuel said, “As your sword has made women childless, so your mother will be childless among women!” Then Samuel cut Agag in pieces before Yahweh in Gilgal.
“See how Ahab humbles himself before me? Because he humbles himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days; but I will bring the evil on his house in his son’s day.”
and Jehoiachin the king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon, he, and his mother, and his servants, and his princes, and his officers; and the king of Babylon captured him in the eighth year of his reign.
However you are just in all that has come on us; for you have dealt truly, but we have done wickedly.
When they cast down, you will say, ‘be lifted up.’ He will save the humble person.
When he killed them, then they inquired after him. They returned and sought God earnestly.
When pride comes, then comes shame, but with humility comes wisdom.
Before destruction the heart of man is proud, but before honor is humility.
The result of humility and the fear of Yahweh is wealth, honor, and life.
Yahweh, in trouble they have visited you. They poured out a prayer when your chastening was on them.
I will cast you out with your mother who bore you into another country, where you were not born; and there you will die.
“Lord, righteousness belongs to you, but to us confusion of face, as it is today; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, who are near, and who are far off, through all the countries where you have driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against you.
For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
For in it is revealed God’s righteousness from faith to faith. As it is written, “But the righteous shall live by faith.”
What fruit then did you have at that time in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
For I say through the grace that was given me, to every man who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think reasonably, as God has apportioned to each person a measure of faith.
and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, that which is of the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith,
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time,
Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God in the land!”
I also walked contrary to them, and brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled, and they then accept the punishment of their iniquity,
It shall be righteousness to us, if we observe to do all these commandments before Yahweh our God, as he has commanded us.”
Then Saul said, “I have sinned. Return, my son David; for I will no more do you harm, because my life was precious in your eyes today. Behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.”
David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against Yahweh.” Nathan said to David, “Yahweh also has put away your sin. You will not die.
because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before Yahweh, when you heard what I spoke against this place, and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard you,’ says Yahweh.
He carried away Jehoiachin to Babylon, with the king’s mother, the king’s wives, his officers, and the chief men of the land. He carried them into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon.
because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God, when you heard his words against this place, and against its inhabitants, and have humbled yourself before me, and have torn your clothes, and wept before me, I also have heard you,” says Yahweh.
He did that which was evil in Yahweh his God’s sight. He didn’t humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from Yahweh’s mouth.
In the shelter of your presence you will hide them from the plotting of man. You will keep them secretly in a dwelling away from the strife of tongues.
Call on me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”
Your righteousness also, God, reaches to the heavens; you have done great things. God, who is like you?
Yahweh is righteous in all his ways, and gracious in all his works.
For Yahweh said to me, “I will be still, and I will see in my dwelling place, like clear heat in sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.”
Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “Yahweh’s word which you have spoken is good.” He said moreover, “For there will be peace and truth in my days.”
For the moth will eat them up like a garment, and the worm will eat them like wool; but my righteousness will be forever, and my salvation to all generations.”
Yahweh says, “Maintain justice and do what is right, for my salvation is near and my righteousness will soon be revealed.
I will declare your righteousness; and as for your works, they will not benefit you.
For we have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteousness is like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
who tell wood, ‘You are my father,’ and a stone, ‘You have given birth to me,’ for they have turned their back to me, and not their face; but in the time of their trouble they will say, ‘Arise, and save us!’
Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have transgressed against Yahweh your God, and have scattered your ways to the strangers under every green tree, and you have not obeyed my voice,’ says Yahweh.”
You are righteous, Yahweh, when I contend with you; yet I would like to reason the cause with you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all at ease who deal very treacherously?
Behold, I watch over them for evil, and not for good; and all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt will be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until they are all gone.
“Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look, and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow, which is brought on me, with which Yahweh has afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.
It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail.
The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned!
There you will remember your ways, and all your deeds in which you have polluted yourselves. Then you will loathe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that you have committed.
the Lord Yahweh says: “Remove the turban, and take off the crown. This will not be as it was. Exalt that which is low, and humble that which is high.
Therefore Yahweh has watched over the evil, and brought it on us; for Yahweh our God is righteous in all his works which he does, and we have not obeyed his voice.
Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.
But the chief priests conspired to put Lazarus to death also,
even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ to all and on all those who believe. For there is no distinction,
For as through the one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the one, many will be made righteous.
For him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf; so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself;
He had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah, Michael, and Shephatiah. All these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.
Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and said to him, “This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their big toes cut off, scavenged under my table. As I have done, so God has done to me.” They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that Yahweh’s wrath didn’t come on them in the days of Hezekiah.
When he was in distress, he begged Yahweh his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers.
His prayer also, and how God was entreated of him, and all his sin and his trespass, and the places in which he built high places, and set up the Asherah poles and the engraved images, before he humbled himself: behold, they are written in the history of Hozai.
He didn’t humble himself before Yahweh, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself; but this same Amon trespassed more and more.
He sings before men, and says, ‘I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it didn’t profit me.
Yahweh is righteous. He has cut apart the cords of the wicked.
Hear, and give ear. Don’t be proud, for Yahweh has spoken.
Say to the king and to the queen mother, “Humble yourselves. Sit down, for your crowns have come down, even the crown of your glory.
if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them.
They are not humbled even to this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.’
“Yahweh is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment. Please hear all you peoples, and see my sorrow. My virgins and my young men have gone into captivity.
“You, his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this,
I will go and return to my place, until they acknowledge their offense, and seek my face. In their affliction they will seek me earnestly.”
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
For being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they didn’t subject themselves to the righteousness of God.
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.
