Hebrew Text— Isaiah 3:14Yahweh will enter into judgment with the elders of his people and their leaders: “It is you who have eaten up the vineyard. The plunder of the poor is in your houses.

Proclaim in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, “Assemble yourselves on the mountains of Samaria, and see what unrest is in her, and what oppression is among them.”
For Yahweh your God, he is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, the mighty, and the awesome, who doesn’t respect persons or take bribes.
Her leaders judge for bribes, and her priests teach for a price, and her prophets of it tell fortunes for money: yet they lean on Yahweh, and say, “Isn’t Yahweh among us? No disaster will come on us.”
For I know nothing against myself. Yet I am not justified by this, but he who judges me is the Lord.
By the breath of God they perish. By the blast of his anger are they consumed.
Many bulls have surrounded me. Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.
There is a generation whose teeth are like swords, and their jaws like knives, to devour the poor from the earth, and the needy from among men.
Woe to those who join house to house, who lay field to field, until there is no room, and you are made to dwell alone in the middle of the land!
who also eat the flesh of my people, and peel their skin from off them, and break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as meat within the cauldron.
He will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.”
For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Listen, my beloved brothers. Didn’t God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him?
“You shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds those who have sight and perverts the words of the righteous.
Do you open your eyes on such a one, and bring me into judgment with you?
When evildoers came at me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.
Pour out your wrath on the nations that don’t know you, on the kingdoms that don’t call on your name;
If only you, God, would kill the wicked. Get away from me, you bloodthirsty men!
Better is a little with righteousness, than great revenues with injustice.
Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and doesn’t sin.
Let me sing for my well beloved a song of my beloved about his vineyard. My beloved had a vineyard on a very fruitful hill.
His breath is as an overflowing stream that reaches even to the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction. A bridle that leads to ruin will be in the jaws of the peoples.
He has made my mouth like a sharp sword. He has hidden me in the shadow of his hand. He has made me a polished shaft. He has kept me close in his quiver.
The Lord Yahweh’s Spirit is on me, because Yahweh has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to those who are bound,
There is no one who calls on your name, who stirs himself up to take hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us, and have consumed us by means of our iniquities.
They have grown fat. They shine; yes, they excel in deeds of wickedness. They don’t plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper; and they don’t defend the rights of the needy.
Pour out your wrath on the nations that don’t know you, and on the families that don’t call on your name; for they have devoured Jacob. Yes, they have devoured him, consumed him, and have laid waste his habitation.
Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who are secure on the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come!
Hear this, you who desire to swallow up the needy, and cause the poor of the land to fail,
Their hands are on that which is evil to do it diligently. The ruler and judge ask for a bribe; and the powerful man dictates the evil desire of his soul. Thus they conspire together.
Don’t oppress the widow, nor the fatherless, the foreigner, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart.’
I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and don’t fear me,” says Yahweh of Armies.
“For it is like a man, going into another country, who called his own servants, and entrusted his goods to them.
Peter opened his mouth and said, “Truly I perceive that God doesn’t show favoritism;
What, don’t you have houses to eat and to drink in? Or do you despise God’s assembly and put them to shame who don’t have enough? What shall I tell you? Shall I praise you? In this I don’t praise you.
You masters, do the same things to them, and give up threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no partiality with him.
Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will kill with the breath of his mouth, and destroy by the manifestation of his coming;
Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
Yahweh said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries to me from the ground.
Now therefore let the fear of Yahweh be on you. Take heed and do it; for there is no iniquity with Yahweh our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.”
Is it for your piety that he reproves you, that he enters with you into judgment?
How then can man be just with God? Or how can he who is born of a woman be clean?
You shall break them with a rod of iron. You shall dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”
He will judge the poor of the people. He will save the children of the needy, and will break the oppressor in pieces.
They kill the widow and the alien, and murder the fatherless.
If you, Yah, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?
Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Defend the fatherless. Plead for the widow.”
who acquit the guilty for a bribe, but deny justice for the innocent!
to deprive the needy from justice, and to rob the poor among my people of their rights, that widows may be their plunder, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!
But your eyes and your heart are only for your covetousness, for shedding innocent blood, for oppression, and for doing violence.”
has wronged the poor and needy, has taken by robbery, has not restored the pledge, and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination,
“ ‘ “Behold, the princes of Israel, everyone according to his power, have been in you to shed blood.
The people of the land have used oppression and exercised robbery. Yes, they have troubled the poor and needy, and have oppressed the foreigner wrongfully.
You shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bulls, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
“All their wickedness is in Gilgal; for there I hated them. Because of the wickedness of their deeds I will drive them out of my house! I will love them no more. All their princes are rebels.
“Indeed they don’t know to do right,” says Yahweh, “Who hoard plunder and loot in their palaces.”
Therefore, because you trample on the poor, and take taxes from him of wheat: You have built houses of cut stone, but you will not dwell in them. You have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine.
Please listen to this, you heads of the house of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel, who abhor justice, and pervert all equity.
Her rich men are full of violence, her inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their speech.
He set another parable before them, saying, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field,
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer.
When they didn’t find them, they dragged Jason and certain brothers before the rulers of the city, crying, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here also,
For there is no partiality with God.
Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight; for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.
But from those who were reputed to be important—whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God doesn’t show partiality to man—they, I say, who were respected imparted nothing to me,
yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law, because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law.
But he who does wrong will receive again for the wrong that he has done, and there is no partiality.
If you call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judges according to each man’s work, pass the time of your living as foreigners here in reverent fear,
Didn’t he who made me in the womb make him? Didn’t one fashion us in the womb?
They don’t know, neither do they understand. They walk back and forth in darkness. All the foundations of the earth are shaken.
Don’t enter into judgment with your servant, for in your sight no man living is righteous.
If you see the oppression of the poor, and the violent taking away of justice and righteousness in a district, don’t marvel at the matter, for one official is eyed by a higher one, and there are officials over them.
Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, on David’s throne, and on his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from that time on, even forever. The zeal of Yahweh of Armies will perform this.
A throne will be established in loving kindness. One will sit on it in truth, in the tent of David, judging, seeking justice, and swift to do righteousness.
The humble also will increase their joy in Yahweh, and the poor among men will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
For his burning place has long been ready. Yes, for the king it is prepared. He has made its pyre deep and large with fire and much wood. Yahweh’s breath, like a stream of sulfur, kindles it.
Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in justice.
“In those days and at that time, I will cause a Branch of righteousness to grow up to David. He will execute justice and righteousness in the land.
Out of his mouth proceeds a sharp, double-edged sword, that with it he should strike the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He treads the wine press of the fierceness of the wrath of God, the Almighty.
There are those who pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor,
He doesn’t respect the persons of princes, nor respect the rich more than the poor; for they all are the work of his hands.
For he doesn’t need to consider a man further, that he should go before God in judgment.
Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and don’t call on Yahweh?
Your princes are rebellious and companions of thieves. Everyone loves bribes and follows after rewards. They don’t defend the fatherless, neither does the cause of the widow come to them.
For the vineyard of Yahweh of Armies is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for justice, but, behold, oppression; for righteousness, but, behold, a cry of distress.
but he will judge the poor with righteousness, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked.
As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit. Therefore they have become great, and grew rich.
Listen to this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who tell their husbands, “Bring us drinks!”
They covet fields, and seize them; and houses, and take them away: and they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.
Are there yet treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and a short ephah that is accursed?
“Hear another parable. There was a man who was a master of a household, who planted a vineyard, set a hedge about it, dug a wine press in it, built a tower, leased it out to farmers, and went into another country.
But you have dishonored the poor man. Don’t the rich oppress you, and personally drag you before the courts?
