let’s hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful.
Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.
Yahweh has blessed my master greatly. He has become great. Yahweh has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male servants and female servants, and camels and donkeys.
Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. Yahweh blessed him.
Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.
Sarah said, “God has made me laugh. Everyone who hears will laugh with me.”
“ ‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s brother. You shall not approach his wife. She is your aunt.
“Now, behold, Yahweh has kept me alive, as he spoke, these forty-five years, from the time that Yahweh spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. Now, behold, I am eighty-five years old, today.
The border of their inheritance was Zorah, Eshtaol, Irshemesh,
After many days, when Yahweh had given rest to Israel from their enemies all around, and Joshua was old and well advanced in years,
So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife; and he went in to her, and Yahweh enabled her to conceive, and she bore a son.
They were helped against them, and the Hagrites were delivered into their hand, and all who were with them; for they cried to God in the battle, and he answered them, because they put their trust in him.
He prayed to him; and he was entreated by him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that Yahweh was God.
So we fasted and begged our God for this: and he granted our request.
No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
However, the son by the servant was born according to the flesh, but the son by the free woman was born through promise.
By faith, even Sarah herself received power to conceive, and she bore a child when she was past age, since she counted him faithful who had promised.
Abram fell on his face. God talked with him, saying,
Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”
Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.
Isaac entreated Yahweh for his wife, because she was barren. Yahweh was entreated by him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.
His brothers envied him, but his father kept this saying in mind.
If a man has two wives, the one beloved and the other hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated, and if the firstborn son is hers who was hated,
In the lowland, Eshtaol, Zorah, Ashnah,
He had two wives. The name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
These things contain an allegory, for these are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children to bondage, which is Hagar.
He dealt well with Abram for her sake. He had sheep, cattle, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels.
Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.
He said, “Lord Yahweh, how will I know that I will inherit it?”
Then Abraham fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, “Will a child be born to him who is one hundred years old? Will Sarah, who is ninety years old, give birth?”
Abraham traveled from there toward the land of the South, and lived between Kadesh and Shur. He lived as a foreigner in Gerar.
He lived in the wilderness of Paran. His mother got a wife for him out of the land of Egypt.
God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her, and opened her womb.
Yahweh your God himself will go over before you. He will destroy these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess them. Joshua will go over before you, as Yahweh has spoken.
There was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and childless.
Then his brothers and all the house of his father came down and took him, and brought him up and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the burial site of Manoah his father. He judged Israel twenty years.
Go back, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say, ‘I have hope,’ if I should even have a husband tonight, and should also bear sons,
David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.
The families of Kiriath Jearim: the Ithrites, the Puthites, the Shumathites, and the Mishraites; from them came the Zorathites and the Eshtaolites.
Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.
The days of our years are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty years; yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, for it passes quickly, and we fly away.
Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh. The fruit of the womb is his reward.
Sheol, the barren womb; the earth that is not satisfied with water; and the fire that doesn’t say, ‘Enough.’
He said, “Come!” Peter stepped down from the boat, and walked on the waters to come to Jesus.
“Thus has the Lord done to me in the days in which he looked at me, to take away my reproach among men.”
Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, seeing I am a virgin?”
Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it, and was glad.”
Sarai was barren. She had no child.
Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, bore him no children. She had a servant, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.
He said, “Hagar, Sarai’s servant, where did you come from? Where are you going?” She said, “I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai.”
Abraham prayed to God. God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his female servants, and they bore children.
Abraham was one hundred years old when his son, Isaac, was born to him.
God said to Abraham, “Don’t let it be grievous in your sight because of the boy, and because of your servant. In all that Sarah says to you, listen to her voice. For your offspring will be named through Isaac.
Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Paddan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian, to be his wife.
He went in also to Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him seven more years.
Yahweh saw that Leah was hated, and he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.
When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister. She said to Jacob, “Give me children, or else I will die.”
Jacob’s anger burned against Rachel, and he said, “Am I in God’s place, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?”
If a man lies with his uncle’s wife, he has uncovered his uncle’s nakedness. They shall bear their sin. They shall die childless.
Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
They fell on their faces, and said, “God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation?”
“Get away from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment!” They fell on their faces.
He said, “No; but I have come now as commander of Yahweh’s army.” Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and worshiped, and asked him, “What does my lord say to his servant?”
Now Joshua was old and well advanced in years. Yahweh said to him, “You are old and advanced in years, and there remains yet very much land to be possessed.
Now king David was old and advanced in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he couldn’t keep warm.
He said, “What then is to be done for her?” Gehazi answered, “Most certainly she has no son, and her husband is old.”
David lifted up his eyes, and saw Yahweh’s angel standing between earth and the sky, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.
He settles the barren woman in her home as a joyful mother of children. Praise Yah!
As the appearance of the rainbow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around. This was the appearance of the likeness of Yahweh’s glory. When I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard a voice of one that spoke.
So he came near where I stood; and when he came, I was frightened, and fell on my face; but he said to me, “Understand, son of man; for the vision belongs to the time of the end.”
But the angel said to him, “Don’t be afraid, Zacharias, because your request has been heard. Your wife, Elizabeth, will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.
Zacharias said to the angel, “How can I be sure of this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”
Behold, Elizabeth your relative also has conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.
Without being weakened in faith, he didn’t consider his own body, already having been worn out, (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.
Now when he had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
Abraham was old, and well advanced in age. Yahweh had blessed Abraham in all things.
