One who trusts in himself is a fool; but one who walks in wisdom is kept safe.
Beware, brothers, lest perhaps there might be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God;
This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event to all: yes also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
But Yahweh said to Samuel, “Don’t look on his face, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for I don’t see as man sees. For man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart.”
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but Yahweh weighs the hearts.
for this people’s heart has grown callous, their ears are dull of hearing, they have closed their eyes; or else perhaps they might perceive with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again; and I would heal them.’
Don’t judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”
“Man, who is born of a woman, is of few days, and full of trouble.
You know my sitting down and my rising up. You perceive my thoughts from afar.
Yahweh preserves the foreigners. He upholds the fatherless and widow, but he turns the way of the wicked upside down.
All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but Yahweh weighs the motives.
Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to Yahweh: they shall certainly not be unpunished.
All we like sheep have gone astray. Everyone has turned to his own way; and Yahweh has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
For we have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteousness is like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.
But he, desiring to justify himself, asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?”
I tell you that even so there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance.
He spoke also this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
They have all turned away. They have together become unprofitable. There is no one who does good, no, not so much as one.”
for sin, finding occasion through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me.
For being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they didn’t subject themselves to the righteousness of God.
in gentleness correcting those who oppose him: perhaps God may give them repentance leading to a full knowledge of the truth,
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you double-minded.
To Adam he said, “Because you have listened to your wife’s voice, and ate from the tree, about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ the ground is cursed for your sake. You will eat from it with much labor all the days of your life.
You shall burn the whole ram on the altar: it is a burnt offering to Yahweh; it is a pleasant aroma, an offering made by fire to Yahweh.
and will make an offering by fire to Yahweh—a burnt offering, or a sacrifice, to accomplish a vow, or as a free will offering, or in your set feasts, to make a pleasant aroma to Yahweh, of the herd, or of the flock—
You, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind; for Yahweh searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.
‘Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?
Behold, I was born in iniquity. My mother conceived me in sin.
for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.
Don’t move the ancient boundary stone. Don’t encroach on the fields of the fatherless,
It is better that you should not vow, than that you should vow and not pay.
The heart is deceitful above all things and it is exceedingly corrupt. Who can know it?
Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps there may be a lengthening of your tranquility.”
But he knew their thoughts; and he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Rise up, and stand in the middle.” He arose and stood.
For the law produces wrath, for where there is no law, neither is there disobedience.
Also, do not present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn’t have known sin, except through the law. For I wouldn’t have known coveting, unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.”
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.
but he shall wash its innards and its legs with water. The priest shall burn all of it on the altar, for a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, of a pleasant aroma to Yahweh.

This is so that innocent blood will not be shed in the middle of your land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance, leaving blood guilt on you.
“Truly I know that it is so, but how can man be just with God?
What is man, that he should be clean? What is he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
He plots iniquity on his bed. He sets himself in a way that is not good. He doesn’t abhor evil.
Don’t enter into judgment with your servant, for in your sight no man living is righteous.
arrogant eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
The wicked are overthrown, and are no more, but the house of the righteous shall stand.
The schemes of folly are sin. The mocker is detested by men.
“For this is like the waters of Noah to me; for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah will no more go over the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you, nor rebuke you.
Woe to those who devise iniquity and work evil on their beds! When the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was like this: After his mother, Mary, was engaged to Joseph, before they came together, she was found pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation. A house divided against itself falls.
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.
Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ;
For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don’t find it doing that which is good.
For who among men knows the things of a man, except the spirit of the man, which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God, except God’s Spirit.
Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each man will get his praise from God.
Having therefore these promises, beloved, let’s cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
We also all once lived among them in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.
Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts. Let him return to Yahweh, and he will have mercy on him, to our God, for he will freely pardon.
Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long will your evil thoughts lodge within you?
You have done evil more than your fathers, for behold, you each walk after the stubbornness of his evil heart, so that you don’t listen to me.
Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?
But if that evil servant should say in his heart, ‘My lord is delaying his coming,’
Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, “This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what kind of woman this is who touches him, that she is a sinner.”
Repent therefore of this, your wickedness, and ask God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.
haven’t you shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?
Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of man’s heart was continually only evil.
Yahweh smelled the pleasant aroma. Yahweh said in his heart, “I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake because the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth. I will never again strike every living thing, as I have done.
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one.
How then can man be just with God? Or how can he who is born of a woman be clean?
The wicked, in the pride of his face, has no room in his thoughts for God.
The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt. They have done abominable deeds. There is no one who does good.
They have all gone aside. They have together become corrupt. There is no one who does good, no, not one.
The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity. There is no one who does good.
Every one of them has gone back. They have become filthy together. There is no one who does good, no, not one.
I hate double-minded men, but I love your law.
Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life.
Yahweh will uproot the house of the proud, but he will keep the widow’s borders intact.
Their feet run to evil, and they hurry to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity. Desolation and destruction are in their paths.
“ ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “It will happen in that day that things will come into your mind, and you will devise an evil plan.
Don’t think to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
Behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man blasphemes.”
For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies.
Immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you reason these things in your hearts?
He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts. For that which is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.
While you kept it, didn’t it remain your own? After it was sold, wasn’t it in your power? How is it that you have conceived this thing in your heart? You haven’t lied to men, but to God.”
For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law worked in our members to bring out fruit to death.
But sin, finding occasion through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead.
lest there be any sexually immoral person, or profane person, like Esau, who sold his birthright for one meal.
that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
Like water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man.
For we were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
