Hebrew Text— Isaiah 10:14My hand has found the riches of the peoples like a nest, and like one gathers eggs that are abandoned, I have gathered all the earth. There was no one who moved their wing, or that opened their mouth, or chirped.”

The fear of Yahweh teaches wisdom. Before honor is humility.
As an eagle that stirs up her nest, that flutters over her young, he spread abroad his wings, he took them, he bore them on his feathers.
He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart.
When pride comes, then comes shame, but with humility comes wisdom.
I will set my face against you, and you will be struck before your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you; and you will flee when no one pursues you.
Oh, Lord, what shall I say, after Israel has turned their backs before their enemies?
Yahweh helps them and rescues them. He rescues them from the wicked and saves them, because they have taken refuge in him.
Though Babylon should mount up to the sky, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet destroyers will come to her from me,” says Yahweh.
They covet fields, and seize them; and houses, and take them away: and they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.
“Behold, I am against you,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword will devour your young lions; and I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers will no longer be heard.”
Woe to him who gets an evil gain for his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the hand of evil!
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
Therefore the children of Israel can’t stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will not be with you any more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.
The king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great army to Jerusalem. They went up and came to Jerusalem. When they had come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.
‘For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.’ ”
Is it at your command that the eagle mounts up, and makes his nest on high?
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we trust in the name of Yahweh our God.
All who pass by the way rob him. He has become a reproach to his neighbors.
Pride goes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.
I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city.
Though they dig into Sheol, there my hand will take them; and though they climb up to heaven, there I will bring them down.
Yahweh will cause you to be struck before your enemies. You will go out one way against them, and will flee seven ways before them. You will be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth.
So Haman came in. The king said to him, “What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?” Now Haman said in his heart, “Who would the king delight to honor more than myself?”
Haven’t you made a hedge around him, and around his house, and around all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;
Your hand will find out all of your enemies. Your right hand will find out those who hate you.
Don’t trust in oppression. Don’t become vain in robbery. If riches increase, don’t set your heart on them.
He who loves disobedience loves strife. One who builds a high gate seeks destruction.
A man’s pride brings him low, but one of lowly spirit gains honor.
There is one who is alone, and he has neither son nor brother. There is no end to all of his labor, neither are his eyes satisfied with wealth. “For whom then, do I labor and deprive my soul of enjoyment?” This also is vanity. Yes, it is a miserable business.
My dove in the clefts of the rock, in the hiding places of the mountainside, let me see your face. let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet and your face is lovely.
Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers who write oppressive decrees;
He will consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body. It will be as when a standard bearer faints.
‘For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.’ ”
Hezekiah was pleased with them, and showed them the house of his precious things, the silver, the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, and all the house of his armor, and all that was found in his treasures. There was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah didn’t show them.
You inhabitants of Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock. Be like the dove that makes her nest over the mouth of the abyss.
Therefore my heart sounds for Moab like pipes, and my heart sounds like pipes for the men of Kir Heres. Therefore the abundance that he has gotten has perished.

“When your people Israel are struck down before the enemy, because they have sinned against you; if they turn again to you, and confess your name, and pray and make supplication to you in this house;

They said, “This is blood. The kings are surely destroyed, and they have struck each other. Now therefore, Moab, to the plunder!”
By your messengers, you have defied the Lord, and have said, “With the multitude of my chariots, I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon, and I will cut down its tall cedars and its choice cypress trees; and I will enter into his farthest lodging place, the forest of his fruitful field.
“If your people Israel are struck down before the enemy because they have sinned against you, and they turn again and confess your name, and pray and make supplication before you in this house;
He built towers in the wilderness, and dug out many cisterns, for he had much livestock; in the lowland also, and in the plain. He had farmers and vineyard keepers in the mountains and in the fruitful fields, for he loved farming.
Don’t you know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?
They spoke of the God of Jerusalem as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men’s hands.
Therefore he brought on them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or virgin, old man or gray-headed. He gave them all into his hand.
with kings and counselors of the earth, who built up waste places for themselves;
For you will make them turn their back, when you aim drawn bows at their face.
You make us turn back from the adversary. Those who hate us take plunder for themselves.
Before destruction the heart of man is proud, but before honor is humility.
The proud and arrogant man—“Scoffer” is his name— he works in the arrogance of pride.
There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against Yahweh.
Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.
Woe to those who join house to house, who lay field to field, until there is no room, and you are made to dwell alone in the middle of the land!
I will send him against a profane nation, and against the people who anger me I will give him a command to take the plunder and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.
As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, whose engraved images exceeded those of Jerusalem and of Samaria;
who struck the peoples in wrath with a continual stroke, who ruled the nations in anger, with a persecution that no one restrained.
Therefore they will carry away the abundance they have gotten, and that which they have stored up, over the brook of the willows.
As birds hovering, so Yahweh of Armies will protect Jerusalem. He will protect and deliver it. He will pass over and preserve it.”
Woe to you who destroy, but you weren’t destroyed, and who betray, but nobody betrayed you! When you have finished destroying, you will be destroyed; and when you have finished betrayal, you will be betrayed.
I will give your substance and your treasures for a plunder without price, and that for all your sins, even in all your borders.
For as often as I speak, I cry out; I cry, “Violence and destruction!” because Yahweh’s word has been made a reproach to me, and a derision, all day.
behold, I will send and take all the families of the north,” says Yahweh, “and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations around. I will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.
and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another; and all the kingdoms of the world, which are on the surface of the earth. The king of Sheshach will drink after them.
As for your terror, the pride of your heart has deceived you, O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, who hold the height of the hill, though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there,” says Yahweh.
“Son of man, your brothers, even your brothers, the men of your relatives, and all the house of Israel, all of them, are they to whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, ‘Go far away from Yahweh. This land has been given to us for a possession.’ ”
by your great wisdom and by your trading you have increased your riches, and your heart is lifted up because of your riches—”
“Son of man, those who inhabit the waste places in the land of Israel speak, saying, ‘Abraham was one, and he inherited the land; but we are many. The land is given us for inheritance.’
All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and he does according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and no one can stop his hand, or ask him, “What are you doing?”
While I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before Yahweh my God for the holy mountain of my God;
At the beginning of your petitions the commandment went out, and I have come to tell you; for you are greatly beloved. Therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision.
Ephraim said, “Surely I have become rich, I have found myself wealth. In all my wealth they won’t find in me any iniquity that is sin.”
you who rejoice in a thing of nothing, who say, ‘Haven’t we taken for ourselves horns by our own strength?’
Though you mount on high as the eagle, and though your nest is set among the stars, I will bring you down from there,” says Yahweh.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
and said to them, “Whoever receives this little child in my name receives me. Whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For whoever is least among you all, this one will be great.”
For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
“Now there was a certain rich man, and he was clothed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury every day.
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.
For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
