Hebrew Text— Job 40:8Will you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified?

Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding.
yet I will rejoice in Yahweh. I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!
Uz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram,
The Rock: his work is perfect, for all his ways are just. A God of faithfulness who does no wrong, just and right is he.
Now therefore let the fear of Yahweh be on you. Take heed and do it; for there is no iniquity with Yahweh our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.”
Far be it from me that I should justify you. Until I die I will not put away my integrity from me.
The wicked is brought down in his calamity, but in death, the righteous has a refuge.
For what the law couldn’t do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh;
May it be far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn’t the Judge of all the earth do right?”
God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also withheld you from sinning against me. Therefore I didn’t allow you to touch her.
and he said, “Yahweh, the God of our fathers, aren’t you God in heaven? Aren’t you ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in your hand, so that no one is able to withstand you.
Let him take his rod away from me. Let his terror not make me afraid;
You would call, and I would answer you. You would have a desire for the work of your hands.
I cry to you, and you do not answer me. I stand up, and you gaze at me.
Yes surely, God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert justice.
I was so senseless and ignorant. I was a brute beast before you.
I said in my haste, “All people are liars.”
Though I walk in the middle of trouble, you will revive me. You will stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies. Your right hand will save me.
Yahweh will fulfill that which concerns me. Your loving kindness, Yahweh, endures forever. Don’t forsake the works of your own hands.
Yes, since the day was, I am he. There is no one who can deliver out of my hand. I will work, and who can hinder it?”
But now, Yahweh, you are our Father. We are the clay and you our potter. We all are the work of your hand.
The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
“He said to him, ‘Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant! You knew that I am an exacting man, taking up that which I didn’t lay down, and reaping that which I didn’t sow.
But if our unrighteousness commends the righteousness of God, what will we say? Is God unrighteous who inflicts wrath? I speak like men do.

He said to Abram, “Know for sure that your offspring will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years.

You shall not add to the word which I command you, neither shall you take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of Yahweh your God which I command you.
The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spoke to me, ‘One who rules over men righteously, who rules in the fear of God,
withdraw your hand far from me, and don’t let your terror make me afraid.
“But the mountain falling comes to nothing. The rock is removed out of its place;
He has torn me in his wrath and persecuted me. He has gnashed on me with his teeth. My adversary sharpens his eyes on me.
where then is my hope? as for my hope, who will see it?
But he knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I will come out like gold.
Then the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel, the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was kindled against Job. His wrath was kindled because he justified himself rather than God.
Should even one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn him who is righteous and mighty?—
“I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be restrained.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against Yahweh.
Consider the work of God, for who can make that straight, which he has made crooked?
Now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will take away its hedge, and it will be eaten up. I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled down.
This is what the Lord Yahweh says: “It shall not stand, neither shall it happen.”
“Because you have said, ‘We have made a covenant with death, and we are in agreement with Sheol. When the overflowing scourge passes through, it won’t come to us; for we have made lies our refuge, and we have hidden ourselves under falsehood.’ ”
You are righteous, Yahweh, when I contend with you; yet I would like to reason the cause with you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all at ease who deal very treacherously?
What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? May it never be!
“For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him?” But we have Christ’s mind.
But if while we sought to be justified in Christ, we ourselves also were found sinners, is Christ a servant of sin? Certainly not!
that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set before us.
For a will is in force where there has been death, for it is never in force while he who made it lives.
David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against Yahweh.” Nathan said to David, “Yahweh also has put away your sin. You will not die.
My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope.
Behold, he snatches away. Who can hinder him? Who will ask him, ‘What are you doing?’
Though I am righteous, my own mouth will condemn me. Though I am blameless, it will prove me perverse.
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of its judges. If not he, then who is it?
Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and smile on the counsel of the wicked?
“ ‘Your hands have framed me and fashioned me altogether, yet you destroy me.
An empty-headed man becomes wise when a man is born as a wild donkey’s colt.
Behold, he will kill me. I have no hope. Nevertheless, I will maintain my ways before him.
See now, I have set my cause in order. I know that I am righteous.
Although there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure.
that he would maintain the right of a man with God, of a son of man with his neighbor!
“Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness, from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
“Shall he who argues contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.”
The counsel of Yahweh stands fast forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
Trust in him at all times, you people. Pour out your heart before him. God is a refuge for us.
But I will always hope, and will add to all of your praise.
But according to your hardness and unrepentant heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath, revelation, and of the righteous judgment of God;
May it never be! Yes, let God be found true, but every man a liar. As it is written, “that you might be justified in your words, and might prevail when you come into judgment.”
May it never be! For then how will God judge the world?
“For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?”
We were also assigned an inheritance in him, having been foreordained according to the purpose of him who does all things after the counsel of his will,
because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
Saul said to Samuel, “But I have obeyed Yahweh’s voice, and have gone the way which Yahweh sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
‘Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?
Do you intend to reprove words, since the speeches of one who is desperate are as wind?
Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert righteousness?
But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you,
Your own mouth condemns you, and not I. Yes, your own lips testify against you.
You who tear yourself in your anger, will the earth be forsaken for you? Or will the rock be removed out of its place?
“Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard. I cry for help, but there is no justice.
“Do you think this to be your right, or do you say, ‘My righteousness is more than God’s,’
Who has prescribed his way for him? Or who can say, ‘You have committed unrighteousness?’
Remove your scourge away from me. I am overcome by the blow of your hand.
Against you, and you only, I have sinned, and done that which is evil in your sight, so you may be proved right when you speak, and justified when you judge.
I said in my heart, “As for the sons of men, God tests them, so that they may see that they themselves are like animals.
For Yahweh of Armies has planned, and who can stop it? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?”
Your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol shall not stand. When the overflowing scourge passes through, then you will be trampled down by it.
Concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, ‘Yahweh says: “You have burned this scroll, saying, “Why have you written therein, saying, ‘The king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will cause to cease from there man and animal?’ ” ’
“Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not equal.’ Hear now, house of Israel: Is my way not equal? Aren’t your ways unequal?
I will make you a bare rock. You will be a place for the spreading of nets. You will be built no more; for I Yahweh have spoken it,’ says the Lord Yahweh.
“ ‘Yet the children of your people say, “The way of the Lord is not fair;” but as for them, their way is not fair.
“Your words have been stout against me,” says Yahweh. “Yet you say, ‘What have we spoken against you?’
“But he answered one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Didn’t you agree with me for a denarius?
But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed ask him who formed it, “Why did you make me like this?”
Brothers, speaking of human terms, though it is only a man’s covenant, yet when it has been confirmed, no one makes it void or adds to it.
Now I say this: A covenant confirmed beforehand by God in Christ, the law, which came four hundred thirty years after, does not annul, so as to make the promise of no effect.
For there is an annulling of a foregoing commandment because of its weakness and uselessness
