Hebrew Text— Exodus 22:7“If a man delivers to his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it is stolen out of the man’s house, if the thief is found, he shall pay double.

Or don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals,
Therefore putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor. For we are members of one another.
Don’t lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his doings,
“You shall not steal.
He said to them, “Yahweh is witness against you, and his anointed is witness today, that you have not found anything in my hand.” They said, “He is witness.”
“Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture!” says Yahweh.
For wasn’t Israel a derision to you? Was he found among thieves? For as often as you speak of him, you shake your head.
For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus said to him, “Buy what things we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor.
But as it is, I wrote to you not to associate with anyone who is called a brother who is a sexual sinner, or covetous, or an idolater, or a slanderer, or a drunkard, or an extortionist. Don’t even eat with such a person.
He shall make restitution for that which he has done wrong regarding the holy thing, and shall add a fifth part to it, and give it to the priest; and the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering, and he will be forgiven.
He who practices deceit won’t dwell within my house. He who speaks falsehood won’t be established before my eyes.
Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
that you may bear your own shame, and may be ashamed because of all that you have done, in that you are a comfort to them.
Jesus said, “Most certainly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or land, for my sake, and for the sake of the Good News,
The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.
envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s Kingdom.
Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,
That which was torn of animals, I didn’t bring to you. I bore its loss. Of my hand you required it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night.
“Anyone who kidnaps someone and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.
“If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and kills it or sells it, he shall pay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.
For every matter of trespass, whether it is for ox, for donkey, for sheep, for clothing, or for any kind of lost thing, about which one says, ‘This is mine,’ the cause of both parties shall come before God. He whom God condemns shall pay double to his neighbor.
“You shall not spread a false report. Don’t join your hand with the wicked to be a malicious witness.
“Keep far from a false charge, and don’t kill the innocent and righteous; for I will not justify the wicked.
“If anyone sins, and commits a trespass against Yahweh, and deals falsely with his neighbor in a matter of deposit, or of bargain, or of robbery, or has oppressed his neighbor,
He must restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity!”
Her princes within it are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, that they may get dishonest gain.
The people of the land have used oppression and exercised robbery. Yes, they have troubled the poor and needy, and have oppressed the foreigner wrongfully.
You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgment of Gehenna?
Soldiers also asked him, saying, “What about us? What must we do?” He said to them, “Extort from no one by violence, neither accuse anyone wrongfully. Be content with your wages.”
Sell that which you have, and give gifts to the needy. Make for yourselves purses which don’t grow old, a treasure in the heavens that doesn’t fail, where no thief approaches, neither moth destroys.
Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor. If I have wrongfully exacted anything of anyone, I restore four times as much.”
“So be careful, or your hearts will be loaded down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day will come on you suddenly.
But you have dishonored the poor man. Don’t the rich oppress you, and personally drag you before the courts?
Also, don’t concern yourselves about your belongings, for the good of all the land of Egypt is yours.”
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
If the stolen property is found in his hand alive, whether it is ox, donkey, or sheep, he shall pay double.
But if it is stolen from him, the one who stole shall make restitution to its owner.
or any thing about which he has sworn falsely: he shall restore it in full, and shall add a fifth part more to it. He shall return it to him to whom it belongs in the day of his being found guilty.
“ ‘You shall not steal. “ ‘You shall not lie. “ ‘You shall not deceive one another.
“You shall not steal.
Here I am. Witness against me before Yahweh, and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Of whose hand have I taken a bribe to make me blind my eyes? I will restore it to you.”
Since the days of our fathers we have been exceedingly guilty to this day; and for our iniquities we, our kings, and our priests, have been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, to plunder, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.
For the wicked boasts of his heart’s cravings. He blesses the greedy and condemns Yahweh.
I said in my haste, “All people are liars.”
but if he is found, he shall restore seven times. He shall give all the wealth of his house.
for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags.
The righteous care about justice for the poor. The wicked aren’t concerned about knowledge.
The poor man and the oppressor have this in common: Yahweh gives sight to the eyes of both.
Woe to those who rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink, who stay late into the night, until wine inflames them!
“Speak comfortably to Jerusalem; and call out to her that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received of Yahweh’s hand double for all her sins.”
“Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to release the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke?
Then you will call, and Yahweh will answer. You will cry for help, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’ “If you take away from among you the yoke, finger pointing, and speaking wickedly;
As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so the house of Israel is ashamed: they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets,
“For from their least even to their greatest, everyone is given to covetousness. From the prophet even to the priest, everyone deals falsely.
First I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double, because they have polluted my land with the carcasses of their detestable things, and have filled my inheritance with their abominations.”
But your eyes and your heart are only for your covetousness, for shedding innocent blood, for oppression, and for doing violence.”
because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger: they, their kings, their princes, their priests, their prophets, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
In you have they taken bribes to shed blood. You have taken interest and increase, and you have greedily gained of your neighbors by oppression, and have forgotten me,” says the Lord Yahweh.
They come to you as the people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear your words, but don’t do them; for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their gain.
Don’t oppress the widow, nor the fatherless, the foreigner, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart.’
But I tell you that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause will be in danger of the judgment. Whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ will be in danger of the council. Whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.
Then he says, ‘I will return into my house from which I came out,’ and when he has come back, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order.
He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a den of robbers!”
He said to them, “Collect no more than that which is appointed to you.”
The Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but your inward part is full of extortion and wickedness.
He said to them, “Beware! Keep yourselves from covetousness, for a man’s life doesn’t consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses.”
Satan entered into Judas, who was also called Iscariot, who was counted with the twelve.
They insulted him and said, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.
The hired hand flees because he is a hired hand, and doesn’t care for the sheep.
Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and having the money box, used to steal what was put into it.
and kept back part of the price, his wife also being aware of it, then brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
May it never be! Yes, let God be found true, but every man a liar. As it is written, “that you might be justified in your words, and might prevail when you come into judgment.”
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil. Cling to that which is good.
nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists, will inherit God’s Kingdom.
Let him who stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, producing with his hands something that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need.
For I have no one else like-minded, who will truly care about you.
Abstain from every form of evil.
for the sexually immoral, for homosexuals, for slave-traders, for liars, for perjurers, and for any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine,
Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, “I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you.”
For if a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, comes into your synagogue, and a poor man in filthy clothing also comes in,
Return to her just as she returned, and repay her double as she did, and according to her works. In the cup which she mixed, mix to her double.
But for the cowardly, unbelieving, sinners, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their part is in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
